Senior Scribbles (Dec. 26, 2012)

hillsboro senior center

We hope everyone had a merry Christmas and will have a happy New Year.

The center and activities resume Dec. 26 with Bingo after the noon meal.

The birthday dinner is scheduled Monday, Dec. 31.

Also remember the center is closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s.

Volunteers continue to be needed at the center and anyone interested can do one or more days a month from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Those who help get their meal that day free. If someone can give their time, please call. It’s great fellowship.

We can use more program ideas. Everyone enjoys music or learning about trips, crafts or other hobbies and those who present a program get their meal that day, too.

January menus are ready, but effective Jan. 2 the cost of meals is going up.

For people age 60 and older, the lunch cost is $3.15, up from $2.75.

For those age 59 and younger, the amount is $5, up from $4.50.

According to information received from North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging, the reason for the increase is because of the fiscal cliff.

I am sorry, but I just got the e-mail Thursday about the changes.

The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

For more information about volunteering or other center activities, call 620-947-2304.

Marion senior center

Senior Center Day was Dec. 19 and we had a good crowd.

Residents from Hilltop Manor joined us and the Marion High School Singers performed Christmas songs, directed by Dave Clark.

During the business meeting, Sue Clough, president, gave Christmas bonus checks to employees Kathy West, Barbara Bitner and myself.

Remember “Show ‘n Tell” is Dec. 26. Be sure to bring the best gift, the strangest gift, the why-did-my-children-give-me-this gift, you got for Christmas.

We will be closed New Year’s Day.

Come join us Jan. 2. There will be a program after lunch.

For more information on volunteering, renting the senior center building, or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.

Well the Christmas holiday is over and I hope each of you was well blessed.

We will have Bingo on Dec. 27. Plan to eat with us that day and then stay for the game. We always have a lot of fun and we already have the prizes.

Don’t forget to celebrate on New Year’s Eve noon with us. We will be eating Kim Nellan’s famous pizza and then be entertained by Bob and the Boys.

This will be a fun day. We will need your reservations early so Kim, our cook, will have plenty of time to bake those delicious pizzas.

Reservations can be made by calling 620-983-2226 or stopping by the center at 106 S. Walnut. Midday meals are served at 11:45 a.m. each day for a suggested price of $2.75 for anyone 60 and older or $4.50 for those who have not reached age 60 yet.

We would love to have you come join us and remember to call and make your reservations the day before or leave a message on the answering machine if it’s after hours.

Happy New Year ya’ll.
