Senior Scribbles (Dec. 24, 2013)

Hillsboro Senior Center

It?s time to say, ?goodbye,? to 2013, and as we ring in the new year, remember to stop by and enjoy a meal with us.

The center offers good food and great fellowship.

Show ?n Tell is Friday, Dec. 27. Anyone participating is asked to share a Christmas present.

Our birthday dinner is Monday, Dec. 30, and on New Year?s Eve we will share resolutions.

As we start 2014, volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Anyone who helps will get their meal free the day they work. Please call for more information.

Volunteers can work one day or more a month, and we always have a great time.

January menus will be out soon.

The suggested meal donation for people 60 and over is $3.15 and those under 59 is $5. We are located at 212 N. Main St., or call 620-947-2304.

We thank everyone for their support of the center in 2013 and hope to see everyone in 2014.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good lunch experience.

The senior center is a warm, cozy, friendly place serving good food. Give us a try in 2014.

The eager beaver crew worked on the newsletter Dec. 16. They included Elsie Reiswig, Nora Richter, Sue Clough, Jane Makovec, Wanda Hamm, Al Ash, Mary Ann Timm, Evelyn Jewett, Fred Puttroff and Pat Busey. Gayla Ratzlaff, Marion County Department on Aging, and Lanell Hett directed it.

Senior Center Day was Dec. 18. Senior center president, Sue Clough, conducted the business meeting. Bonus checks were given to employees Janet Bryant, Kathy West and Barb Bitner.

The Marion High School Singers performed Christmas music, directed by Tim Cassidy.

We want to honor the Meals on Wheels drivers from Florence who have been so faithful for years. At the present time, there is no need for this service.

Lenora Graham, Dale Miller and Ed Robinson deserve our thanks.

We will be closed on New Year?s Day.

For information on volunteering, renting the senior center building or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.

Peabody Senior Center

The year is winding down rapidly and we have been blessed with a very active, eventful year here at the Peabody Senior Center.

In addition, we are grateful for the activities that have been so successful this year and all the volunteers that have made it possible for these things to be successful. We thank you each and every volunteer that provided us with such a wonderful year.

We still have our last big ?grand finale,? which is the New Year?s Eve event. We will have Kim Nellan?s pizza followed by music from Bob and the Boys after lunch.

Please plan to join us, but be sure to sign up early so Kim will make enough of her pizza for everyone.

We start the New Year off right by being closed on Wednesday, Jan 1.

Remember we do have freezer meals available for when we are closed. Call us and we will be happy to deliver them or they may picked up, too.

The birthday dinner for January is Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Plan to celebrate your birthday with us. We always have a delicious meal and we will be having a rescheduled program by Nancy Pihl from the Marion County Extension office. She is always has lots of good information for us.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas, and I hope each of you remember the real reason for the season, which is Jesus.

We look forward to serving you in 2014 and hope you will stop by to pick up a menu for January and make some New Year?s resolutions to join us for great balanced meals this year.

For more information, to volunteer or to make lunch reservations, call 620-983-2226 or stop by 106 N. Walnut.

We are open from 9 a.m. until around noon.
