Senior Scribbles (August 3, 2016)

hillsboro senior center

It’s already August, where has the time gone? Come have a meal with us and take one meal off from cooking. We have great fellowship and food, too. We’d love to see you here at the center.

We are planning chair massages for Aug. 3; call for more information. Physician Alisa Schmidt will be here Aug. 4 after the noon meal. She will be coming the first Thursday of every other month.

We will have a fundraiser Aug. 5; it will be our sloppy joe and ice cream social with music by Bob Delk & the Boys. It will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This will be by donation. We hope you will come enjoy a great time and help support the senior center.

We have foot care Aug. 16. Call for an appointment. Audiologist Haris Zafar is here at 11 a.m. the third Wednesday of the month.

We want to thank everyone who donates to the center every month. We also thank all our volunteers and board members for their work. We need more volunteers and Meals on Wheels drivers, so please call or stop by the center for more information.

We also observed the National Day of the Cowboy by reading cowboy poetry. Those participating were Joyce Jackson, Sue Clough, Larry Blosser, Estelle McCarty, Keith Allison, Joan Meyer, Connie Fisher and me. We sang “Home on the Range” accompanied by Shirley Bowers. We thank Bearly Makin’ It Antiques for loaning us the cardboard cut-out of Roy Rogers.

We welcomed residents of Hilltop Manor July 27. The program was given by Peggy Blackman, director of the Marion Historical Museum.

Good-bye July, hello August. Looks like this week is another warm one but last week was a breather for us. The rain was a welcome sight.

We now have our DVD set up for Tai Chi and some of us have been watching it and even trying it. Getting ready for the big day. Gayla Ratzlaff will be here the next six weeks to instruct us; she will be here at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday. The question is, are you ready to try this exercise?

Amy Soyez had lunch with us last Friday. It gave us a chance to meet her and listen to her.

Tuesday, Aug. 9, will feature Grief Share with Rev. Rick Schrag from 3-4:30 p.m. Our Birthday Dinner will be Aug. 10.

Rachel will be here for free chair massage, and Peabody Rehab will be here to take blood pressure readings. This will be a busy day.

Our board meeting will be Aug. 15. Dinner with Dr. Whitely will be Aug. 18. The Senior Citizens of Marion County meeting will be Friday, Aug. 19.

Thank-you to Marilyn Jones for all her cut flowers. They are absolutely beautiful. Thank-you also to all our volunteers who give of their time.
