Senior Scribbles (August 13, 2014)

hillsboro senior center

We will be playing Bingo Wednesday, Aug. 13, and Erma Clarkson of Marion will be here Friday, Aug. 15, to share some of her inspirational paintings.

Clarkson is a native Kansan, who grew up loving to look at paintings, and when she was in first grade, she was drawing the president of the U.S.

Other events include footcare Aug. 19 with appointments necessary, hearing aid checks at 11 a.m. Aug. 20, and a jam session Aug. 22 either after lunch or during lunch, whichever works best.

Everyone who plays an instrument is encouraged to play it and have a good time with the music.

Those bringing an instrument to play will also get their meal free. All we ask is that you let us know ahead of time.

We want to thank everyone for all the fresh produce donated to our center. It?s been enjoyable having it.

Those who want to join us for lunch are encouraged to attend.

Our gratitude also extends to those who came to the August social last week and their donations to help with center expenses.

Volunteers are still needed. For those who can help, please call or stop by the center. Volunteers get their meals free the day they work, too.

We are here from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are located at 212 N. Main St., or call 620-947-2304.

Just today I found more zucchini outside when I opened the front door, and then Janice Waner brought a bucket of cherry tomatoes from the community garden in Florence.

We thank everyone who shares produce with us.

We had a program Aug. 6 by Daniel Floyd, chaplain at Asera Care Hospital in El Dorado.

He offered to sing before his PowerPoint presentation. That was a first, offering to sing before a non-musical program.

We will be having a cookout at noon Saturday, Aug. 16, complete with burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad and watermelon.

It is a makeup meal from a February snow day. Call if you plan to join us.

Aug. 20 is Senior Center Day. The program will be given by Linda Walter, organist/pianist.

For more information or lunch reservations, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.
