Senior Scribbles (Aug. 29, 2012)

hillsboro senior center

We want to thank everyone who supported our ice cream social Saturday. Additionally, we want to thank Tabor College students for volunteering at our center to help clean up. They did a great job.

We had our birthday dinner Monday and on Wednesday we will be playing Bingo after lunch.

September calendars will be ready for pickup. These months are going by too fast.

Please come and join us for a meal and program and, for those who have time to volunteer, they will get their meal the day they help.

For more information on volunteering or center activities, call 620-947-2304. The deadline to make reservations for lunch is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

We hosted the Marion County Senior Citizens board meeting Aug. 17. They provided a speaker for all of us, Marion County Sheriff Rob Craft, who talked about keeping our own world safe and secure.

We?ve enjoyed birthday treats three days in a row. Jean Pierce brought treats Aug. 20, John Lynch, the next day and Estelle McCarty on Aug. 22.

Several friends from Hilltop Manor came to eat lunch and share the birthday with Estelle.

We have a few new boxes of birthday cards. They are very nice and going fast.

Colleen Hajek spoke to us Aug. 22 about the fish farm she and husband Mark operate. It was a fascinating talk.

We will be closed Labor Day, Sept. 3.

Come join us for lunch Sept. 5 with a program following. Karen Williams will demonstrate, ?I Don?t Know Where to Start? exercises.

For more information on renting the building, programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

Peabody senior center

By the end of the week another month will be completed. It?s amazing how quickly the days and weeks and months seem to be flying by. Fall is surely in the air evidenced by the cooler nights, the leaves already starting to turn colors, and then the wonderful rain we were blessed with last week.

The Peabody Senior Center will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

If you need a frozen meal for that day, please let us know in advance and we will deliver it with our regular deliveries on the Friday before so you will have it before the holiday.

We will reopen again Sept. 4 with our regular schedule.

The September menu is now available at the Senior Center, 106 N. Walnut and you may call for reservations at 620-983-2226.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. We would also love to have additional volunteers at the center. For those who are available one or two hours a week, or a month, give us a call and we’ll be glad to accept your help.

Have a great holiday!

To make a meal reservation, volunteer or to ask a question, call 620-983-2226.
