Senior Scribbles (Aug. 21, 2013)

Hillsboro Senior Center

The center is hosting Marlene Fast on Thursday, Aug. 22. She plans to discuss Tabor College alumni.

We hope everyone can join us starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 for the center?s fundraising event. Sloppy joes, pie and ice cream will be served until the food runs out at a cost of $7.

Entertainment is being provided by the Cottonwood River Band.

Please consider coming out for a great evening of fellowship and food.

Other activities include Haris Zafar of Wichita, who will be here at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21; the monthly business meeting also that day and the center?s birthday dinner Aug. 26.

Anyone can join us at the center for a meal. The suggested donation is $3.15 for those age 60 and older and $5 for those under 60. It is a great price for a great meal.

For more information on volunteering or lunch reservations, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St.

Marion Senior Center

I can verify the power of the press. When we asked for a volunteer to bind baby quilts, the day my write-up appeared, Dalene Tharp called to say, ?yes.?

Mark you calendar for Sept. 17. The Marion County Health office will be here to give flu shots beginning at 12:30 p.m.

We had an Area Agency board member from Wilsey, who came by to do the annual evaluation Aug. 13. She was very efficient.

Rita Linnens gave a presentation on Aug. 14 concerning her company, Kansas Truck Mobility in Wichita.

She parked a pickup in front of the building and demonstrated the wheelchair lift for drivers.

On Oct. 4 there will be an event with many vendors for those needing home accessibility, daily living aids and financing.

The Kansas Food Bank truck will be in the Marion Senior Center parking lot at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. Come choose from the food available.

Join us Aug. 28. Pastor Jeff Lee of the Aulne United Methodist Church will sing for us.

For information on volunteering, renting the senior center building or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.
