hillsboro senior center

This week at the center, Haris Zafar will be here at 11 a.m. Aug. 17 to do hearing aid checks.

In addition, Janet Herzet with Marion County Home Health and Medical Alert Systems will offer a program at 12:30 p.m.

A community breakfast is planned from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 20. The menu will include biscuits and gravy, ham, pancakes, coffee, juice and milk. The cost is $6.

Anyone new to the community is invited to join others at the center for a good meal at a good price.

The cost of meals for those ages 59 and under is $4.50 and those over age 60 is $2.75.

We would also like to thank our kitchen staff, Meals on Wheels drivers and other volunteers for all their hard work.

For those who come for meals and programs, we want to thank them as well for supporting the center.

For more information, or to volunteer on projects, call 620-947-2304 before 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

We had our one day food giveaway Aug. 4 with fruit, corn and potatoes being taken by anyone coming in. The food was provided by the Kansas Food Bank in Wichita.

We received a photo and note from former resident Pauline Edmunds. She now lives in Oklahoma and would love to hear from her Marion friends.

For those knitters and crocheters, the Kansas Children?s Service League is asking for purple newborn baby caps to be collected through October. They will be given to Kansas newborns in November as part of a campaign to prevent shaken baby syndrome/infant abuse.

Janice Warner brought in cherry tomatoes and pumpkins from the community garden in Florence.

We had an interesting program Aug. 10. The women of the Dorcas Society of Our Savior Lutheran Church demonstrated making sleeping mats from plastic bags.

The sleeping mats will be sent to Haiti and other places. The women were Lois Johnson, Irma Meisinger, Ruth Lange, LaVaughn Klose and Marlene Bernhardt.

We have a new shipment of greeting cards. Come look them over.

Shirley Bowers and Shirley Moore are new reservation ladies. They also prepare each day?s bank deposit.

Come join us for Saturday brunch at 10 a.m. Aug. 20. This is one more make-up meal for snow days in February.

Sue Clough and Shirley Bowers will provide a singalong Wednesday, Aug. 24. It should be great fun.

For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.
