Senior Scribbles (Aug. 1, 2012)

hillsboro senior center

July is behind us and we welcome August and back to school.

?Show and Tell? is Friday, Aug. 3. Everyone planning to attend is encouraged to bring school day memories to share.

We will have music from Ron and Connie Shipman of Marion Aug. 7. Hope to see others there for the program and a meal with us.

The center would like to thank everyone who donated cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and squash. We have enjoyed eating all these vegetables.

Anyone who has a wireless microphone they are willing to donate or sell, please give me a call. We are looking for this item and it would be appreciated.

August menus are available for pickup or if someone needs it mailed, let us know.

We need volunteers to help from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anybody who helps will get their meal free that day. Volunteers must be 16 or older to help. A big thank you goes out to all our wonderful volunteers who help us. We couldn?t do it without you.

For more information on volunteering, classes or other center activities, call 620-947-2304. The deadline to make reservations is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

The lifesize cardboard figure of John Wayne watched over us July 27 for National Day of the Cowboy. Thanks to Judy Dannenfelser for sharing him.

Marge Regnier brought treats for her birthday July 23.

Our building is being rented three times this month. For $50, the building can be rented for the entire day, or less. Call to reserve.

Our speaker July 25 was Karyn Woodward of Florence. She talked about herbs and circulated containers of basil, rosemary and others. Woodward reported that the dandelion can be used in its entirety for medicnal purposes.

Come join us for lunch Aug. 8 and stay for the program.

For more information on renting the building, programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.
