Senior Scribbles (April 19, 2017)

hillsboro senior center

We want to thank everyone who came to our Easter dinner Friday.

About 100 people had their meal in the center and another 50 people had meals to go.

Suffice it to say, we had a great turnout, and want to express our gratitude to everyone for supporting our senior center.

Activities this week include a sing-a-long April 20. On Monday, April 24, we look forward to seeing everyone for the birthday dinner.

We still need of volunteers, and anyone who can help is asked to call. Another need is for programs, and if someone wants to present a program, let us know that, too. Whether volunteering or offering a program, the meal is free.

We are looking for a substitute head cook. For more information, please call or stop by the center. One of our larger refrigerators is needing to be replaced, and these are expensive items. For anybody who can help, their donations would be greatly appreciated.

For those who haven’t been to the center, or for others who haven’t been here in quite a while, please stop by and see us. Meals are $3.50 for anyone age 60 and older, and $5.25 for age 59 and younger.

We look forward to seeing you. For more information, call 620-947-2304, or stop by 212 N. Main St., Hillsboro.

Marion senior center

We reluctantly said farewell to long-time dining room volunteer Rosalie Schmidtberger on April 6, which was her last day. With her departure as a volunteer, we now have one or two openings.

I had a big birthday April 7, and part of the celebration was the surprise visit of my daughters, Ann Carr and Jan Helmer, bringing cupcakes for us. They stayed to eat with all of us. Thanks, girls. Lanell Hett put up signs and balloons that day, too.

We welcomed the Aulne United Methodist birthday group April 12. They were honoring Gary Grentz, Maryellen Stenzel and Wanda Williams as April celebrants.

Come join us April 26 when we will be honoring our volunteers, including those who deliver meals, work in the dining room, play piano, welcome people at the reservation table, and in other ways to keep the senior center open and running smoothly.

Meals are $3.50 for those age 60 and older, and $5.25 for age 59 and younger.

For more information about the center or to make a meal reservation, call 620-382-2942 or stop by 309 S. Third St.

Hope everyone had a good Easter and safe travels. What a week we have had. Phoebe Janzen came April 1, and shared a meal with us and took pictures of four of our seniors playing cards. They were Sadie Decker, Sally Matz, Hazel Smith, and Martha Fisher, who play every Tuesday after lunch. What a team.

We have so much to be thankful for. Our automatic door was finished April 13, and just in time for a great workout Friday for our Easter brunch. It is so nice to have for the seniors who use a walker or wheelchair.

Our birthday dinner had a terrific turnout. Virginia Skinner played the piano before and during lunch.

Dinner with the Doctor is April 19, and April 21 the Senior Citizens of Marion County is meeting in Tampa.

Volunteer Appreciation week is April 23-29. Please let the volunteers know how much we appreciate them. A special dinner for volunteers is April 26 and we hope others will join us.

Meals are $3.50 for age 60 and older, and $5.25 for age 59 and younger. For more information call 620-983-2226. And, for those who can’t come in, call and we will deliver.
