Senior Scribbles (9-12-18)

HILLSBORO senior center

This week we will have bingo on Wednesday, Sept. 12. We will play bingo after the noon meal, and on Thursday, Sept. 13, we will have our jam session after the noon meal.

Then, on Saturday, Sept. 15, the Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair will be going on. The senior center is needing volunteers from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Call for more information at 620-947-2304. We are also looking for program ideas, too, so let us know.

We are also looking for a gas grill to be donated to our center. We enjoyed our barbecued hamburgers last week and would like to grill more stuff, so we like to have our own grill that we could use for our noon meals and for fundraisers, too! If anyone has a good grill that they don’t use anymore or if anyone would like to donate one a new one, we would be grateful. We can even give you a receipt for your donations.

Marion senior center

Due to the Labor Day holiday there is less to report this week.

We had a program on Sept. 5 given by Makenzie Deines. She is a recent graduate of Kansas State University and is preparing to go to India in January for a three year adventure.

We will have a candidate meet and greet with JoSchwartz on September 21 beginning at 10:30 a.m. We welcome any candidates who wish to visit us.

On Sept. 22 we will have our final make up meal at noon with the popular Harlow’s grilled burgers. We hope for a better winter weather prospect in 2018.

We would like some volunteers in the kitchen. Come in and help once a week to get the meals on wheels ready and then the congregate meals.

We celebrated our September birthdays with a birthday dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Dr. Whitely presented a program. Sonja Koslowsky played the piano. Rachel Gfeller gave chair massages and Peabody Health and Rehab volunteered their time to take your blood pressure. Hope you were able to come.

Monday, Sept. 17, there will be a PACE bingo with Shan Copeland right after a lunch of sloppy joes and potato salad. Try to come as it’s a lot of fun.

Check out our September menu. There are lots of good meals to choose.

Gayla Ratzlaff will be scheduled to come to Peabody for one day in Oct. and Nov. for your prescriptions and help with medicare. That time of year already. We appreciate Gayla volunteering her time to be here for us.

Westview Manor has been fantastic coming every Wednesday to volunteer their time in the kitchen and dining room. Our center thanks all of you who volunteer. We would not be able to serve our seniors meals without you. “Our goal is to keep you healthy and in your home.”

Come and say hi to everyone and share a meal with us. Meals are $3.50 for 60+ and $5.25 for 59 and under. Be sure to call and make a reservation. Take advantage of our Meals on Wheels program, please call for information at 620-983-226.
