SENIOR SCRIBBLES (8-8-18)

HILLSBORO senior center

We welcome the month of August. Soon kids will be going back to school and start of fall sports. We hope you will come join us soon at the senior center.

We have games and fellowship every Monday after the noon meal and bingo every Wednesday after the noon meal.

We will be having our ice cream social on Friday, Aug. 17 from 6-8 p.m. Bob Delk & the boys will be playing music for us. We will be serving Bierocks, pickles & chips and home made ice cream and pie for $7 donation or if you can donate more that would be great.

We are needing to purchase a new steam table so we will be needing funds for that and also just to pay our monthly bills. We are greatful for everyone’s support to our center to keep it going strong.

Call for more information at 620-947-2304. And if anyone has a program idea or would like to present a program for us, let us know. We have meal tickets you can purchase for your loved ones or friends they make a great gift.

We had cowboys galore on July 27 when we celebrated National Day of the Cowboy. Everyone received a bandana to wear and a deputy sheriff badge to pin on. With cardboard cut outs of John Wayne and Roy Rogers in the background, we read cowboy poetry. Participants were Connie Fisher, Sue Clough, Jim Hett, Max Ewert, Janie Westerman, Larry Blosser, Joan Meyer, Madonna Schafers and Janet Bryant. We closed by singing “Home on the Range” led by Sue Clough, accompanied by Shirley Bowers.

We were honored to have Beverly Hoch and her mom, Nadine, dinging with us on July 30.

Peabody senior center

It’s hard to believe it’s August already.

Everyone around here is either canning their produce, giving it away or selling it. We have wonderful people in town who are willing to share their extra produce with our diners so they can have fresh food at home.

We were glad that our center was used as a place to vote this past Tuesday. It brought back many good memories of the days everyone used to vote here.

We will be celebrating our Birthday Dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The board meeting is on Monday, Aug. 13.

Grief Share will be from 3-4:30 p.m. on Aug 14.

The SCMC Board meeting will be held in Burns on Friday, August 17.

We hope you can stop by and have a cup of coffee with us, stay for a meal and enjoy good conversation. Meals are $3.50 for 60+ and $5.25 for 59 and under. Take advantage of our Meals on Wheels program, please call for information at 620-983-2226.

Yes, we are still in need of volunteers to help us. We want you to come and be a part of our family at the center.
