Senior Scribbles (8-21-18)

Hillsboro Senior Center

We want to thank everyone who came out for our ice cream social. We always have a good time and a great fundraiser for our center. We thank you for all your support.

We will have show & tell on Friday, Aug 24.

On Monday, Aug. 27 we will have our birthday dinner.

We will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3 for the labor day holiday.

We will have our September menus out soon.

We still need volunteers to help call for more information. We have been short a few and we need a dishwasher that can fill in as a sub for us and be on call when needed. Stop by to pick up an application at 212 north main.

We would like program ideas, too. The person that presents the program will get a meal the day they have their program. We are always looking for new ideas.

We want to thank everyone who supports our center !

Marion senior center

We had a big day on Aug. 15 with all kinds of excitement. The truck with all the commodities was quite late so people from Marion and other towns were waiting to unload and box up the delivery. the Marion crew included Shirley Moore, Gene and Doris Winkler, Bob Crawford, Andy Ash and help from Larry Blosser and Marlow Warnete.

The Aulne Methodist Church birthday bunch came for lunch. They were honoring Bill Scriven, Archie Stenzel, Eugene Just and Don Fruechting.

The program was given by Sheriff Rob Craft. We talked about being aware of possible shooter situations in any setting.

We thanked Harlow Warnete for grilling hamburgers for us.

And we welcomed Thelma Blossed back from knee surgery.

Come join us on Aug. 29 when Roger Holter will present the coming downtown Marion revitalization project.

Peabody senior center

We welcomed Paula Edmonds, Activity Director from Peabody Health and Rehab, who brought several diners this past week.

Echo Smith, Activity Director from Westview Manor, also brought diners on our Birthday Day and two volunteers for the kitchen. It was a fun day for all.

Echo and two volunteers are going to start coming every Wednesday to help in the kitchen. They have been such a great help.

We served a make-up meal of chili and homemade cinnamon rolls on Thursday, Aug. 16. Not only was it a good meal, but we had a good number of diners attend. Chili is always good, even in the summer. We appreciate everyone who comes in and shares their time with us.

At 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, we will be serving our Labor Day brunch.

Hope you all received a good amount of rain. It looks like we may have measured about 5 inches. School started Tuesday so watch out for the children walking, bicycling and the yellow buses. Welcome back teachers!

You are always welcome to out center. Maybe you can stay for a meal. October menus are now available. Meals are $3.50 for 60+ and $5.25 for 59 and under. Be sure to call and make a reservation. Take advantage of our Meals on Wheels program, please call for information at 620-983-2226.
