HILLSBORO senior center

We welcome the month of August. Soon kids will be going back to school and starting fall sports. We hope you will come join us soon at the senior center.

We will have physician Alisa Schmidt here on Thursday, Aug. 2. We also have games and fellowship every Monday after the noon meal and bingo every Wednesday after the noon meal.

We will also be having our ice cream social from 8-6 p.m. Friday Aug. 17. Bob Delk & the Boys will play music for us too. We will serve bierocks, pickles and chips and homemade ice cream and pie for $7 donation, or if you can donate more that would be great.

We need to purchase a new steam table, so we will need funds for that and also just to pay our monthly bills. We are grateful for everyone’s support to our center to keep it going strong we need volunteers.

Call for more information at 620-947-2304. And if anyone has a program idea or would like to present a program for us, let us know. We have meal tickets you can purchase for your loved ones or friends they make a great gift.

Marion senior center

We’ve had some eventful days recently, including a make-up meal on Saturday, July 21. Ed Riffel grilled hamburgers for us that day.

Sunday, July 22, was a very successful ice cream social, with Shirley Moore in charge. We thank all who came and gave generously. Thanks to Harold Van Buren, who gave a check in the awesome amount of $5,000.

Irmagene Goodman brought treats for her birthday on July 20.

Our program on July 25 was given by Dawn Miller of Angels Care. Her topic was “Managing Pain as You Age.”

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran will re-schedule his visit to Marion, so watch for that information.

Yes, we are still in need of volunteers to help us. Did you know research shows that volunteering two hours a week can make you feel better? Volunteering can help you combat loneliness which can be linked to dementia. Besides, we actually have a lot of fun.
