Senior Scribbles (5-23-18)

HILLSBORO senior center

We need more volunteers. As school will be getting out, if anyone 14 years or older would like to help, let us know. You can call 620-947-2304 for more information.

As a reminder, we will be closed on Monday, May 28, for Memorial Day holiday. We want to let people know that we offer meal tickets and they make a great gift for your loved ones.

We hope you will join us soon at the Senior Center. We also want to let people know that the Senior Center is run off donations only. The suggested meal donation goes to the North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging for our food and also pays the site manager and head cook wages. It does not pay any of our monthly bills to keep our center open.

We are needing more donations because we have been low the past few months. We are also going to need a new hot water heater, and that will take a lot of money. If you can help, we will be grateful.

We need to keep our center going for it is great fellowship and sometimes the only meal our seniors have. We thank everyone for your support to our center.

A reminder that anyone of any age can eat at the center. The suggested donation for age 60-plus is $3.50 and for age 59-and-under $5.25. For more information, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

We welcomed Harvest House for lunch with us on May 11. We have several groups who eat with us monthly after their meetings, or just to gather and visit.

Shirley Bowers brought me an Elvis teddy bear that plays “All Shook Up” while shaking. We demonstrated for everyone May 11. Jean Bowers brought treats for her birthday May 15.

Senior Center Day was May 16. President Sue Clough conducted the business meeting. The group voted to be proactive about future utility bills by voluntarily donating extra money when eating here. We value the meals and our meal-delivery program, which are valuable to the community. We deliver about 24 meals per day.

Join us May 30 for a program by Dr. Randolph Whitely.
