Another month of good food and fun at Marion Senior Center.

We had a test of resourcefulness in October when the food truck didn?t arrive at 6 a.m.

That meant a different entree needed to be fixed. Barb Bitner found sausage patties in the freezer and them up, baked with pasta and tomatoes. Our second choice would have been to go get pizza.

The program that day was given by Sharon Simons, transition coordinator at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She did a PowerPoint presentation on dental care.

Our numbers have been falling like the autumn leaves. Please consider coming to eat with us before we don’t have a place to come eat at.

For some more pleasant news, though, we start baking peppernuts Oct. 9 right after the kitchen is cleaned from lunch.

Usually that is about 12:30 p.m. and then everything starts buzzing. The dough is already made in the morning and ready to go, so then “scraper” clears the pans and they are transferred to the dishwashers who clean the pans.

The process then begins all over again. This sounds like a difficult process, but with all the people that come in and help it goes fast and is a lot of fun. Many small jobs make a big job manageable.

Please consider coming down to help. Everyone will be appreciated and you will enjoy the experience.

Peppernut baking is each Monday and Thursday until Nov. 13 with the exception of Thursday, Oct. 16.

Everyone who would like, can attend the SCMC annual board meeting in Hillsboro, but reservations are needed to attend. Please contact our center to get your ticket before that date.

We have the reservations available now, so come to 106 N. Walnut or call us at 620-983-2226, and we will be happy to assist.

This is a great meeting and everyone gleans much information applicable to seniors.

Our local board meeting is Monday, Oct. 13, and our business meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 21. These are both open meetings and everyone is welcome to attend and contribute if they have any suggestions.

Join us for Lunch with the Doc on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Randolph Whitely, a medical doctor with Heritage Medical, comes and discusses health issues for seniors.

Flu shots will be given at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, here.

No appointment is necessary, and if you would like to eat with us, give a call and make a reservation.

Gayla Ratzlaff will be with us Oct. 29 to review the Part D prescription drug plans. Please make an appointment by calling the center.
