Senior Scribbles (11-21-18)

HILLSBORO senior center

We want to thank everyone who came to our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday and also to the Herbal family for singing for us.

We hope you had a happy Thanksgiving, too.

We will be closed on Nov. 22 and 23 for the thanksgiving holiday.

On Monday, Nov. 26 we will have our birthday dinner at noon.

On Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 4-6 p.m. we will have a table sat up at the giving Tuesday at the Hillsboro city hall for people to come and donate to our center if you like.

We will have show and tell on Friday, Nov. 30. Bring holiday crafts or memories to share.

It will be Dec. 1 before we know it. Come shop at our stop and shop on from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 during the down home Christmas event.

We will have our December menus out soon.

We also need volunteers so please let us know if you can help.

Thank you everyone for your support to our senior center.

We used some trivia questions to observe Veteran’s Day on Nov. 12. We also sang to Jerry Nelson who had celebrated his birthday when he was in Arizona earlier.

On Nov. 13, Keith Allison brought treats for his birthday. He was vague about his actual age.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, we had a presentation by Barb Smith on her duties as a Marion County Silver Haired Legislator.

We also had a meeting of the ONE committee headed by Connie Omstead. The group consists of site managers in the county. Gayla Ratzlaff serves as a County Department on Aging coordinator, and Sue Clough is the president of Marion Senior Citizens.

Welcome to Teresa Eads who will be delivering meals twice a day.

Remember our policy abou the center being closed. If Marion schools close due to weather, we are also closed. Check your TV for this information.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! We hope you have a great holiday and safe travels to all of you on the road. Enjoy your time with family and friends.

Last Friday, Nov. 16, our center hosted the SCMC Board meeting with several from Marion County attending.

Tuesday, Nov. 20, we will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner. You are welcome to come and join us, call and make a reservation.

We finished baking our peppernuts this past Thursday. Our volunteers were fantastic, no complaining and they celebrated with a cookie party afterwards. We will still have peppernuts available but don’t wait too long. They seem to disappear quickly.

Remember that we are closed on Thanksgiving Day and also the day after so if you need a frozen meal, you can place an order and we will bring out on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.

December menus are now available. Drop in, pick one up and join us for a meal.

Meals are $3.50 for 60+ and $5.25 for 59 and under. Be sure to call and make a reservation.

Take advantage of our Meals on Wheels program, please call for information at 620-983-2226.
