Senior Scribbles 3-4-20

HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER

We welcome the month of March, and we hope for spring to come early for us.

Remember daylight saving on Sunday, March 8 when we spring forward on time.

We will have show and tell on Friday, March 6. Bring anything to share.

We needing volunteers on Thursdays and Fridays. Call for more information.

We also need to get people to sub for our cook and dishwasher as soon as possible. If either one is sick or needs time off, we don’t have anyone right now so call or stop by the center for more information at 620-947-2304. You will get paid training for both positions.

We are looking for program ideas so let us know if you have any.

There will be a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, March 21 from 7 a.m. -1 p.m. Waffles and Dale’s sausage by donation and we could use help that day with volunteers. We have a sign-up sheet at the senior center.

MARION SENIOR CENTER

We welcomed the Aulne Church birthday bunch on Feb 20. They were honoring Loretta Keazer who was born on Feb 29.

We then hosted the Marion County Senior Citizen’s board on Feb 21.

Dorothy Conyers brought cookies to celebrate her birthday on Feb 22. She brought treats on Feb. 24. Sue Clough and Barb Smith share a Feb. 25 birthday so we had cake, cookies and ice cream bars.

Ash Wednesday was also Senior Center Day, with Vice President Janie Westerman conducting the business meeting.

Kristina Keyser of Angels Care gave the program on Alzheimers.

We will have two programs next week. Dr. Whitely will speak on March 11 and city council member Ruth Herbel will speak on the 12th.

World Day of Prayer is observed in countries around the world, beginning at sunrise. In Marion, it will be observed at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6 at Valley United Methodist Church.

The theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk” written by women of Zimbabwe. Retired United Methodist pastor, Robert Priest, who has traveled to Zimbabwe will be speaking. All in the Community are invited. World Day of Prayer is sponsored by Marion Church Women United.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER

Hope all of you are enjoying this incredible weather. Just remember summer will be here before you know it.

Lenten Devotions started last Wed, with Pastor Jim Pohlman, Peabody Christian Church, giving the message, and on Wed. March 4, Pastor Nathan Gift Peabody Methodist Church, will give us a program right after lunch. We will have six Lenten Devotions before Easter, the last one will be on April 1. Pastor Jeff Lee, Aulne Church, will give his message on March 11. We hope you can attend these programs.

Grief Share will be at the Center from 3- 4:30 pm. on Tuesday, March 10.

Birthday Dinner with Rachel Gfeller giving chair massages and Joan Stovall playing the piano on Wednesday, March 11.

Board Meeting on March 16.

St. Patrick Day is on Tuesday, March 17 so let’s wear something green. We will be serving Corned Beef w/Cabbage.

Our Senior Center will be hosting the SCMC Mtg. on Friday, March 20.

We are working on a few programs in the near future, as soon as we get the dates settled we’ll get them scheduled and let you know.

March menus are ready to be picked up if you haven’t already taken one. If you have been assessed for meals, whether you dine in or have delivered, you can receive 14 meals a week.

Meals are $3.50 for 60+ and $5.25 for 59 and under. Be sure to call and make a reservation. Take advantage of our Meals on Wheels program, please call for information (620-983-2226).
