April 27, Levi Jason Smith, journal entry of disposition hearing. The court ordered the defendant to serve 30 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring. The court ordered the defendant will be responsible for all associated costs. Said house arrest shall begin May 1, and the defendant shall be allowed to have work release. The court ordered the defendant shall serve seven consecutive days in the custody of the Marion County Sheriff, to begin Aug. 24, 2015, at 10 a.m. Upon the defendant?s release from house arrest, the defendant shall be placed on supervised probation with Court Services for 12 months, subject to all original terms and conditions. The court ordered the defendant shall pay any additional court-appointed-attorney fees as determined by the court.

April 27, Chad Allen Clark, journal entry of conviction and sentencing. The court found the defendant guilty of one count of criminal trespass and sentenced the defendant to a controlling sentence of 30 days in the custody of the Marion County sheriff. The court placed the defendant on immediate unsupervised probation for six months. Said probation is subject to all standard terms and conditions and the following special terms: the defendant was ordered to meet one time with probation officer. The defendant was ordered to serve 48 hours in the county jail for every positive drug/alcohol test, refusal to submit, or admission of usage. The court ordered the defendant to pay court costs and surcharge of $158 and court-appointed-attorney fees as determined by the court. The court ordered the defendant shall have all fees paid within five months from today?s date. The court ordered the defendant shall not be on the premises of 303 B St., Goessel, unless the owners inform the court otherwise. The court further ordered the defendant to obey all federal, state and city laws and ordinances.

Accidents

At 6:30 p.m. April 10, Devin Kelly Nolte, 15, Canton, was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango southbound on Alamo with passenger Cameron Nolte, 13. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which went into the east ditch and overturned. Sgt. Larry Starkey investigated.

At 9:34 p.m. April 13, Melissa Ann Parmley, 35, Cedar Point, was driving a 2009 GMC Acadia westbound on Kansas Highway 150 near Yarrow when a deer came out of the south ditch. The driver was unable to avoid striking the deer. Deputy T. Wilson investigated.

At 12:01 a.m. April 16, a vehicle left the road to the right and struck a mailbox on Kanza near 220th. The only item at the scene was a passenger side mirror that belonged to a 2014 Ford pickup. The pickup was found to belong to Colton Tyler Gann, 26, Hillsboro. Deputy Derek L. Fetrow investigated.

At 8:40 p.m. April 17, Clint A. Bettles, 47, Hillsboro, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox west on 190th with passenger Phyllis K. Bettles, 49, when he struck a deer crossing the roadway from the south about 750 feet west of the Limestone intersection. Deputy G. Slater investigated.

At 7 p.m. April 18, Kelly J. Bern?hardt, 39, Tampa, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet C25 truck northbound on U.S. Highway 77 when a turkey flew up and made contact with his windshield, causing the windshield to break. Deputy Joe Base investigated.

At 6:30 a.m. April 19, Taylor Madison Shulse, 24, Leawood, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche northbound on U.S. Highway 77. The driver fell asleep and drove onto the east shoulder before striking a field-access road. The vehicle went airborne and overturned after landing, coming to rest in the east ditch facing northwest 131 feet from mile post 91. The driver was transported by Florence Emergency Medical Services to Wesley Medical Center. Undersheriff David V. Hunt?ley investigated.

At 6 a.m. April 20, Ashley Renee Ratzloff, 22, Marion, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu west on 190th when a deer jumped from the south ditch. The driver was unable to avoid contact and was struck by the deer on the driver?s front corner of the vehicle. Deputy Derek L. Fetrow investigated.

At 9 p.m. April 21, Sheila Kay Hill, 52, Alta Vista, was driving a 2013 Ford F15 northbound on U.S. Highway 77 with passenger Kevin Hill, 54, Alta Vista, when a deer came onto the roadway from the west ditch and struck the vehicle 0.2 of a mile north of 300th. Deputy Bronson Shipman investigated.

At 8:43 p.m. April 22, Jonathan M. Maxfield, 42, Hillsboro, was driving a 1999 Toyota Avalon southbound on Kansas Highway 15 when a deer entered the roadway. The driver was unable to avoid striking the deer. Passengers in the vehicle included Dana Maxfield, 38, and Katherine Maxfield, 10, both of Hillsboro. Deputy Wilma Mueller investigated.

At 7:30 a.m. April 28, Steven D. May, 64, Marion, was driving a 2005 Honda Accord westbound on U.S. Highway 56 when a deer entered the roadway from the south. The driver was unable to avoid striking the deer. Deputy Wilma Mueller investigated.

April 13: Report of sick skunk in the 300 block of West Third Street; exterminated animal. Assisted Kansas Department for Children and Families with a case involving a 3-year-old child. Did work on Drug Abuse Resistance Education class, also known as DARE.

April 14: Received report of suspicious activity in the 600 block of South Lincoln Street. Report of citizen locked out of house in the 300 block of North Main Street. Responded to report of family fighting. Received criminal damage to property complaint in the 200 block of East Grand Avenue. Worked on DARE program. Patrolled school zones.

April 15: Investigated report of juvenile huffing paint. Investigated harassing telephone call complaint. Responded to suspicious activity involving Hillsboro High School student?s vehicle. Patrolled school zones.

April 16: Traffic enforcement; speeding. Assisted Marion County Sheriff?s office with traffic investigation. Attended board meeting of Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center, also known as JIAC. Worked on DARE program. Patrolled school zones.

April 17: Investigated juvenile reported as runaway. Midwest Radar; radar certification completed. Traffic enforcement; speeding. Responded to alarm at Wal-Mart. Assisted with search for dogs at large. Patrolled school zones. Investigated harassment complaint in the 200 block of South Main Street. Responded to dog fight with injuries. Assisted Marion Police Department with a driving under the influence.

April 18: Provided traffic control for Skeeter Run. Investigated theft complaint at Ampride. Assisted with HHS promenade. Investigated 911 hang-up in the 100 block of North Cedar Street.

April 19: Received dog-at-large complaint in the 400 block of West Grand Avenue. Investigated discharge of pellet gun. Assisted motorist. Worked on DARE program.

April 20: Investigated theft report in the 500 block of East Grand; subject drank part of a soft drink and then put the drink back in the cooler at a convenience store without paying for it; proprietor did not want to pursue criminal charges. Dog complaint at Second and Washington streets. Subject reported a registered sex offender violating his/her terms; there was no violation. Report of a residential fire at Cedar and Grand; determined not to be a structure fire and was limited to a couch smoldering. Subject reported a possible sexual battery; this case is still under investigation.

April 21: Officer instructed DARE class at the Hillsboro Elementary School. Fingerprint subject for employment. Several 911 disconnects in the 400 block of West B Street; subject had a 911 only phone and was calling for a ride to an appointment. Noise complaint in the 100 block of South Birch.

April 22: Assisted Wichita Police Department with an investigation. Landlord/tenant dispute in the 400 block of North Ash. Vehicle noise complaint on Floral Drive. Dog complaint at D and Ash streets. Assisted Emergency Medical Services in the 100 block of South Wilson.

April 23: Officer instructed DARE class at HES. Assisted the sheriff?s office with a vehicle accident on Indigo. Civil standby in the 500 block of East D Street; an employee was terminated and asked to leave the property. Fingerprinted subject for employment.

April 24: Assisted Department of Children and Family Services with an investigation. Landlord/tenant dispute in the 400 block of South Ash. Report of an abandoned vehicle in the 300 block of South Date. Report of a reckless driver in the 400 block of North Ash.

April 25: Dog complaint in the 200 block of North Adams. Report of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of West Grand. Motorist assist in the 400 block of North Ash. Assisted with a reckless driver complaint on U.S. Highway 56. Motorist vehicle lockout.
