Accidents

At 7:50 a.m. March 17, Mario Gutierrez, 58, Ottawa, was driving a 2014 Ford 2500 pickup northbound on U.S. Highway 77 with passenger Jason D. Walker, 36, Wellington, when a deer ran in front of the vehicle from the west ditch. The vehicle struck the deer. Undersheriff David V. Huntley investigated.

At 9:45 a.m. March 18, Joshua Seth Ward, 34, Hillsboro, was driving a 1992 Kenworth TM westbound on Kansas Highway 256 as it turned north. The vehicle overturned as it was making the turn, coming to rest on the driver?s side, across K-256, with the front of the vehicle facing east. Deputy Wilma Mueller investigated.

At 12:09 a.m. March 22, Justin Dion Tate, 22, Newton, was driving a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica north in the 1900 block of Sunflower. The driver lost control and the vehicle hit a tree on the east side of the roadway. It appeared the use of alcohol contributed to the accident. The driver was taken by Eagle Med Air Ambulance to Wesley Medical Center. The passenger, Kendall Hein, 40, Florence, was taken by Life Team Air Ambulance to Wesley Med?ical Center. Deputy M.E. Ottens?meier investigated.

At 4:10 p.m. March 22, Diana Kay Howell, 53, Hillsboro, was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion southbound on Nighthawk at U.S. Highway 50. The driver stopped at the stop sign, then pulled into the path of an eastbound 1998 Honda Accord driven by Rosa Isela Guerrero, 48, Wichita. Two passengers in the second vehicle, Lessly Torres, 17, Wichita, and Jesus Guerrero, 17, Wichita, were transported by Marion County Emergency Medical Services to Newton Medical Center. Linda Guerrero, 21, Wichita, was transported by Life Team Air Ambulance to Wesley Medical Center. The fourth passenger in the second vehicle was Veronica Deloera, 18, Wichita. Deputy M.E. Ottensmeier investigated.

At 7 a.m. March 25, Katherine J. Heiser, 53, Ramona, was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry westbound on 330th. Three deer ran out in front of the vehicle from the north ditch. The vehicle struck one of the deer. Undersheriff David V. Huntley investigated.

Offenses

At 11:48 p.m. March 10, a minor in possession of alcohol in Peabody was reported to the Marion County sheriff?s office.

Daily Log March 22-28

March 22: Commercial alarm in the 100 block of South Main. Picked up a stray dog; transported to vet clinic. Parking complaint in the 100 block of East Grand.

March 23: Followup on a damage complaint. Set up civil standby for a property dispute. Possible trespass complaint; subject advised that juveniles may be entering a vacant building downtown. Set up school security program. Report of juveniles operating an all-terrain vehicle in the 300 block of North Birch.

March 24: Officer instructed Drug Abuse Resistance Education class at Hillsboro Elementary School. Dog complaint in the 200 block of Floral. Returned lost property in the 400 block of East First. Assisted Emergency Medical Services with a mental call in the 400 block of North Ash. Received 911 disconnect.

March 25: Child custody dispute in the 200 block of West Grand. Vehicle maintenance. Checked suspicious activity downtown. Dog complaint in the 300 block of South Ash.

March 26: Subject reported two identity fraud cases. Assisted the Wichita Police Department with an investigation. Officer instructed DARE class at HES. Harassment complaint in the 100 block of South Birch. Dog complaint in the 200 block of Floral. Returned lost property found at the sports complex. Arrested subject in the 300 block of North Main on an outstanding warrant.

March 27: Met with parent reference criminal charges against their child. Civil standby at the police department; property dispute. Dog complaint in the 300 block of North Lincoln. Dog complaint in the 200 block of North Madison. Harassment complaint in the 100 block of South Birch. Assisted with removing a cat that had fallen into the basement of a vacant residence.Trespass complaint in the 200 block of North Lincoln; subject returned to her residence after an extended leave and found love notes that had been left throughout the house.

March 28: Assisted with a hay shed fire on 160th. Met with homeowner in reference to an ongoing dog dispute. Welfare check in Hillsboro Heights. Issued several warnings for parking on the grass violations.
