Parkside to host Lifelong Learning event on June 10

LifeLong Learning at Parkside is excited to host Mildred Schindler Janzen at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 10 at Parkside Apartments at 1 Park Place in Hillsboro. The public is welcome.

Janzen survived Nazi Germany, the Russian Red Army and the Polish Army during WWII. She was born in Kansas and moved to Germany as a young girl. She has written a book ‘Surviving Hitler, Evading Stalin’. It recounts her experience as a teenager’s peaceful life is upended when Stalin’s Red Army captures her family. Chronicling the harrowing events of a family torn apart by war, her book is a poignant account of love and loss, evidence of God’s hand in the life of a WWII survivor.

There will be a 20-minute documentary of Janzen’s story, followed by a time for questions. It is too painful for her to recount the entire story. You are encouraged to read the book or watch the video before the event so that relevant questions can be asked. Books will be available on June 10 also. Youtube link:
