Marion Students Place 2nd at Welding Contest

Marion FFA students Trevor Schafers, Karlee Fetrow, Johnny Ziemmermann and Ella Mackey. The team competed in a welding contest last week.

Marion High School students received 2nd place at the Kansas Welding Institute Invitational mig welding contest on Thursday, March 3. The contest was hosted by the North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit. Individually for Marion, Johnny Zieammermann placed 2nd overall and Karlee Fetrow placed 22nd. Trevor Schafers and Ella Mackey were also on the team.

At the contest, team members were required to read and interpret blueprints to correctly place and perform five welds on 3/8” plate and to perform 5 other welds on ¼” plate. They were also given a written test on Mig welding.
