Marion FFA competes at district food science contest

Members of the Marion/Florence FFA Chapter competed in the South Central District Food Science Career Development Event on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in Lyons. Over 350 students on twenty teams from the South Central FFA District competed in the contest. Marion competed in the Greenhand division and placed 14th.

At the event, participants were required to identify 10 different aromas commonly used in food preparation, complete two triangle tests to compare foods, take a written test over the food science industry, and evaluate 10 different customer inquiry and complaints about packaged or processed food and decide the classification of the incident as well as the potential source of contamination according to HACCP guidelines.
