Marion FFA attends leadership conference in Ark City

Officers for the Marion/Florence FFA chapter participated in the South Central District FFA Leadership Conference at Arkansas City High School, on Monday, Nov. 8. The conference consisted of three different competitions in the areas of Parliamentary Procedure, FFA Information, and Opening Ceremony Ritual.

Marion placed 2nd in Parliamentary Procedure, 3rd in the FFA Information Contest, and 10th in the Opening Ceremony Ritual Contest. Mickelly Soyez placed 1st individually in FFA Information and Gracie Mackey was 10th. The chapter placed 2nd overall at the conference out of 36 teams in the South Central FFA District.

Students competing in the parliamentary procedure contest were required to take a test over parliamentary procedure and then perform a ten minute demonstration of 10 different parliamentary motions. This demonstration had to reflect a meeting in progress and participants found out which motions they had to demonstrate and their topic exactly one minute before beginning the demonstration. The FFA information contest consisted of a 100 question test over the FFA organization, officers, history, official functions, and current programs and awards. Students in the opening ceremony ritual contest were required to perform the opening ceremony used at FFA meetings and official functions.

Students competing for Marion included Mackey, Soyez, Breanna Mallory, Emma Box, Belladonna Toy, and Shannon Taylor.
