Scott Zogelman is retiring as an EMT after serving in Marion County since 1995.

With nearly 75 years of service between them, two Marion County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Emergency Medical Technicians have hung up their trauma shears and stethoscopes. It is with honor and pleasure that Marion County EMS recognizes EMTs, James “Dick” Carr and Scott Zogelman.

James “Dick” Carr, initially obtained his EMT certification in 1974. Since that time, he has volunteered his time and put in countless hours of training and emergency calls to assist the citizens of Marion County out of Hillsboro. Carr played vital roles during his time, responding with ambulance units and first responding on emergency calls and hospital transfers.

Scott Zogelman joined the ranks of EMT back in 1995 in Florence. During his time as an EMT, he was a member of Florence EMS before the service merged with Marion County EMS. When Florence became a First Response unit of Marion County EMS, Zogleman had the role of Crew Captain for the Florence responders.

At the end of December 2022, both EMTs did not re-certify their certifications, ending their years of EMS service to Marion County, its visitors and citizens. On Feb. 16, 2023, both individuals were presented plaques in front of current Marion County EMS personnel and County Commissioners for their years of dedicated service.

Marion County EMS is responsible for providing the highest level of prehospital care to the citizens and visitors of Marion County. The department is a combination department with both full-time and volunteer personnel. There are 2, 24-hour staffed units, one housed in Marion and one housed in Hillsboro. There are 2 volunteer BLS units with ALS capabilities, one in Peabody and one in Tampa.
