Hillsboro Wrestling Club places at Kansas Kids State Wrestling Tournament

Madison Kenney took 4th place at the Kansas Kids State Wrestling Tournament making history for the Hillsboro Wrestling Club as the first girl to place.
Sutton Redger got his highest placement to this point as runner-up at the Kansas Kids State Wrestling Tournament.

The Hillsboro Wrestling Club had four kids compete this weekend at the USA Wrestling Kansas 2023 State Folkstyle Championship at the Stormont-Vail Event Center in Topeka. The event is one of the largest wrestling tournaments in the US.

There were 183 Kansas youth wrestling clubs represented in the tournament with just over 2300 total wrestlers including approximately 900 girls and 1400 boys.

8U Girls 90 Madison Kenney’s placed 4th:

14U Boys 165 Sutton Redger’s place is 2nd

  • 1st Place Match – Cash Lewandowski (Timberwolves) won by decision over Sutton Redger (Hillsboro ) (Dec 5-0)

14U Boys 130 Jaxon Chrislip did not place

14U Boys 140 Aaron Hein Did not place (finished in the Top 8)

“We are very proud of these four club members in the way that they competed and represented the Hillsboro Wrestling Club,” said Coach Scott O’Hare. “They all competed very well amongst the top wrestlers in the state of Kansas and should be very proud of their efforts.”

Kenney’s fourth place finish made history as the first girl to place at the state tournament for the club. Redger has placed multiple times over the years at the state tournament, but his runner-up finish this weekend is his highest placement to this point.

“We are very proud of all of our wrestlers that participated over this past season and are excited for them to be back at it next year,” said O’Hare.
