Hillsboro students participate in a global mural project to promote peace, friendship, diversity and love

The HMHS’s WMC Media Center is participating in the 2021 Global Traveling Mural Project with schools across the globe in a collaborative effort to “promote peace, friendship, diversity, and love” through shared art. Each mural is three feet by 10 feet and divided into one feet sections to be shared with other schools. The mural depicts words that best describe the daily goals of the WMC Media Center. It will transform into something new once new panels are received from other schools. The library will mail its sections across the country as well as to an international school in China.

The mural is on display in the WMC Media Center. HMS students colored the mural’s graphics that were created by teacher Janet Whisenhunt using Crayola markers and crayons during their free time in the WMC’s MakerSpace.

“With the Traveling Mural Project, we will be connecting with other school communities around the world to create murals of peace, friendship, diversity and love. The theme and design of the mural your community creates is up to you! That is what will make this project so unique and personal,” said the project’s creator Shannon McClintok Miller.
