If you are looking for something to do this weekend, Hillsboro High School will be performing Shrek the Musical at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m.on Saturday, Nov. 13 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov.14.
The musical is based on the Dreamworks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. The story and lyrics are by David Lindsay-Abaire and the music is written by Jeanine Tesori. It is directed by Lynn Just.
The school’s first in-person theatrical production since the pre-COVID Wizard of the Oz in 2019 is made up of a cast full of talented actors and singers. Shrek will be played by Tristan Rathbone while Frank Wichert stars as Donkey. Three actresses will play Fiona at different stages in life with April Suderman in the role of young Fiona, Gabbie Arnold staring as teen Fiona and Malorie Hein will play adult Fiona. Lincoln Wichert is Lord Farquaad and Emersyn Funk does the of Dragon. Those staring as the fairy tale characters are Rylie Driggers, Aaron Paulus, Alan Torres, Moriah Jost, Katie Rempel, Gabi Sibayan, Hailey Miller, Trudy Hein, Olivia First, Grace Hein, Colton Rempel, Kori Arnold, Moriah Jost, Annaliese Jorgensen and Alana Suderman. Tanner Plett, Gabbie Arnold, Makenna Reed, Brooklyn Schroeder and Zaylee Werth have been cast as dancers. Emery Dalke and Jasmine Wilson are working with lights.
