Goessel Community Foundation awards first Ag scholarship

(Goessel, KS) – The Goessel Community Foundation, an affiliate of Central Kansas Community Foundation, is pleased to announce the recent awarding to Caiden Duerksen, Goessel High School 2022 senior, the first Nelson Galle Endowed Agriculture Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Caiden plans to attend Kansas State University and major in ag tech management.

In the school year 1959-60, Nelson Galle, a K-State Graduate and former FFA State President, was hired. Galle revamped the curriculum to also include students actively participating in competitive contests and leadership training along with shop projects and classroom studies. While this scholarship is named for Galle, many other VoAg/FFA instructors have carried on successful programs and have influenced countless students in the field of agriculture.

One year ago, the Goessel Community Foundation established a Scholarship Fund and solicited contributions from Goessel High School FFA alumni and graduates and raised approximately $23,000. In order to be eligible, a GHS graduate must pursue post-secondary education and major in the field of agriculture.
