FHC to host speak from Latino Writers Collective

Jose Faus will be doing a presentation on the dynamics of immigration and the history or Latinos in Kansas on Jan.7

Flint Hills Counterpoint and Humanities Kansas are bringing José Faus to the American Legion in Peabody at 1 p.m. on Jan. 7 to explore the Latino presence and experience in Kansas. Faus is an independent teacher, artist and the founder of the Latino Writers Collective.

This presentation brings together the dynamics of immigration and the history of Latinos in Kansas told through the lens of visual art and poetry. It showcases an interactive exploration of a personal journey from the heart of Colombia to the heart of the United States, exploring the conundrum of belonging in unfamiliar surroundings while straddling two different cultures and narratives. Faus will also speak about the Latino presence in Marion County.

The group will also be celebrating Peabody immigrant Angel Torres and his life.

The presentation will be at the Peabody American Legion at 108 N Walnut St in Peabody. The event is free but donations will be accepted for the Peabody Community Foundation’s Angel Fund in memory of Angel Torres.
