Annaken Toews and Francisco Mendoza announce their engagement and approaching marriage.
Their parents are Leann and Jerry Toews, Goessel, and Leticia and Francisco Mendoza, Browsville, Texas.
The bride-elect graduated with degrees in global peace and justice studies and social work from Bethel College, North Newton, and received her master’s degree in social work from the University of Washington, Seattle.
She is employed as a service coordinator for immigrant children in detention with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, Harlingen, Texas.
The groom-to-be graduated from the University of Texas at Brownsville with degrees in biology and chemistry. He received his master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Texas at El Paso. He is employed as a physical therapist at Valley Baptist Outpatient Clinic, Harlingen.
The couple will be married Nov. 3 at the Inn at Chachalaca Bend, Los Fresnos, Texas. A local reception is planned for December at Tabor Mennonite Church, rural Newton.
