Peter Schmidt Jr., 89, retired custodian for USD 410 from Lehigh, died Aug. 17.
A service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with pastor Randy Smith officiating. Burial at the Lehigh Mennonite Cemetery will precede the service at 10 a.m.
He was born Aug. 16, 1919, to Peter B. and Susie (Goertz) Schmidt at Goessel. On June 11, 1946, he was married to Hilda E. Schmidt, who survives in North Newton.
He also is survived by two sons, Darrel of Newton and Dwight of Hillsboro; three daughters, Jolene Klassen of Omaha, Neb., LaVonne Marks of Lawrence, and Julia Kaiser of Lehigh; two brothers, Milford of Canton and John Henry of Newton; a sister, Edna Enz of Newton; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Condolences may be sent to the family via jost@jostfuneralhome.com.
