Ivan Nickel

 

Ivan Wayne Nickel, 79, former Hillsboro Industries employee, died Oct. 15 at Newton Medical Center.

The memorial service was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Trinity Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with pastors Tim Kliewer and Jeff Winter?mote officiating.

Burial was at Haven of Rest Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.

He was born Oct. 10, 1929, to Henry E. and Kathryn (Willems) Nickel at Hillsboro.

He is survived by a sister, Ruth Schook of Corpus Christi, Texas, one niece, Winnie Rains of Sikpon, Mo., and two nephews, Craig Schook and Steve Schook, both of Corpus Christi.

Visitation at the church was from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until the start of the memorial service.

Karen Kay Heim

 

Karen Kay Heim, 51, a homemaker, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born May 22, 1957 to Harold G. and Nola A. (Westbrook) Heim at McPherson.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Canton Christian Church. Burial will be in Canton Township Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Olson?s Mortuary.

Survivors include three brothers, Daryl Dean and wife, Janice, of Everton, Mo., Ricky R. of McPherson and Neil L. of Canton; an adopted sister, Roxie Treece of Canton; a sister-in-law, Sandra Heim of McPherson; a faithful companion, Precious, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established with the Canton Christian Church. Donations may be made in care of Olson?s Mortuary, 139 N. Main, P.O. Box 355, Canton, KS 67428

 

Eloise Eitzen Jost

Eloise Eitzen Jost, 81, a licensed medical technologist, died Oct. 15 at Hillsboro Community Hospital.

Services were at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 17, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with pastor Dave Plett officiating. Burial was at 10:30 a.m. at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 20, 1927 to A.C. and Laura (Campbell) Eitzen in Hillsboro. She married Orville D. Jost Aug. 20, 1949 in Hillsboro. He preceded her in death in 1974.

She is survived by her son, Paul M. and Debbie Jost of Leawood; daughter, Frederica and Ron Stassi of Lompoc, Calif. and Dooz Pankratz of Wichita; sisters: Martha Penner of Albuquerque, N.M. and Esther Penner of Fresno, Calif. and seven grandchildren.

No visitation was held.

A memorial fund was established to benefit Tabor College Science Department.

Elmer Jantz

 

Elmer Jantz, 91, a retired farmer and mechanic of Burns, died Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Moundridge Manor.

Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Eden Mennonite Church with Pastors Lowell Koehn, Roland Koehn and Vernon Koehn officiating.

Burial was at Eden Menno?nite Church Cemetery in Burns.

He was born Jan. 8, 1917 to Eli B. and Adina (Eck) Jantz in Montezuma. He married Dorothy Koehn in Halstead on April 20, 1941.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Cheryl and Richard Koehn of DeRidder, La.; sons, Jerald and LaVonne Jantz of Burns and James and Karen Jantz of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; sister, Frances Koehn of Montezuma; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17. at Peterson Funeral Home in Newton.

A memorial fund has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Gospel Tract and Bible Society in care of the funeral home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS. 67114.

 

Irene F. Schmidt

Irene F. Schmidt, 92, who spent most of her life helping her parents and the families of two sisters, died Monday, Oct. 13, at Asbury Park in Newton.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Tabor Mennonite Church with Pastor Corey Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

She was born March 9, 1916 in rural Goessel, the daughter of Bernhard W. and Helena (Schmidt) Schmidt.

Survivors include a sister, Hilda Schmidt of North Newton and a brother-in-law, Gerhard Nickel of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in- law Peter Schmidt Jr.; a sister Norma E. Nickel and one niece.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tabor Mennonite Church and left in care of Broad?way Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114

 

Verlene Herron

 

Verlene Kent Steele Herron, 82, of Indianapolis, Ind., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Indianapolis.

Services will be held in Indiana at a later date.

She was born July 20, 1926 to Conrad and Verneva (Hedrick) Kent in Newton.

Preceding her in death was her first husband, Jim Steele.

Survivors include her second husband, Charles Herron; children, Kent, Amy and Jeff Steele of Indianapolis; one daughter, Joni Steele Kinberlin and Kevin of Conn.; two step-sons, Dan and John Herron; two step-daughters, Kathy and Barb Herron; a sister, Sandra Kent of Florence; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
