Alexander Schwabauer, 94
Alexander P. Schwabauer, 94, a World War II veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart, died Nov. 12 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton. The burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at Tabor Mennonite Cemetery, rural Goessel.
He was born Dec. 15, 1912, to Jacob and Marie (Bender) Schwabauer in Lincoln, Neb. On Sept. 30, 1939, he was married to Hildegarde Keller, who predeceased him in 2003.
He is survived by a son, Neal and Arlys Schwabauer of rural Newton; a brother, Joseph Schwabauer of Lincoln; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial funds have been established with Bethesda Home and Hope Home Repair, both in care of Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.
Darrek Hopkins, 34
Darrek Hopkins, 34, died Nov. 10 at Newton Medical Center.
A graveside service was held Nov. 13 at Whitewater Center Cemetery with pastor Jim Pohlman officiating.
He was born Feb. 22, 1973, to Darrell Hopkins and Donna (Andrews) Slatten in Newton.
He is survived by his parents, his father of Joshua, Texas, and his mother and her husband, Truman Slatten of Collins, Mo.; a brother, Darren and Tammy Hopkins of Levelland, Texas; three step-sisters, Kathy Stark, Hope Espinoza, and Samantha Hudson; a grandmother, Darleen Nonken of Peabody; and his caregiver, Marvin Stewart of ResCare Kansas in Newton.
A memorial fund has been established with ResCare of Kansas in Newton.
