Rex Guhr

 

Rena Dwaine ?Rex? Guhr, 52, truck driver, died June 18 at Via Christi St. Joseph in Wichita.

The service was June 22 at Tabor Mennonite Church in Goessel with Corey Miller and Karen Andres officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born July 3, 1954, to Daniel and Velma (Schmidt) Guhr in Goessel. On Oct. 11, 2002, he was married to Connie Haynes, who survives in rural Newton.

He is also survived by three sons, Jason of Herington, Nevin of McPherson and Nathaniel of Lindsborg; two daughters, Charissa of Goessel and Kendra of Salina; a stepson, Jack Lyon of Goessel; two sisters, Wilma Copeland of Iowa and ElFrieda Schmidt of Omaha, Neb.; and one grandchild.

A memorial has been established with Road Angel Ministries in care of Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.

 

Mike Johnson

 

Mike Johnson, 50, cowboy, died June 19 in Hillsboro.

The service was June 23 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Brett Huebner officiating.

He was born Oct. 30, 1956, to Gerald and Mona (Meredith) Johnson in Albuquerque, N.M. On Oct. 31, 1987, he was married to Judy Reed, who survives in Hillsboro.

He is also survived by a daughter, Cassidy of Hillsboro; a brother, David of San Francisco, Calif.; and five sisters, Patricia Bartel of Hillsboro, Kelly Jost of Goessel, Lisa Shasteen of Pueblo, Colo., Christy Reyes of Lindsborg and Lori McLinden of Marion.

Memorials have been established with the Ronald McDonald House and Hillsboro American Legion in care of Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

 

Donna Smith

 

Donna J. Smith, 50, homemaker and former McDonalds employee, died June 22 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The service was June 26 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

She was born Oct. 5, 1956, to Paul and Doris Harman in Lafayette, Ill. On Dec. 9, 1982, she was married to Bobby Smith, who survives in Marion.

She is also survived by a son, David of Marion; a daughter, Amber Sullivan of Marion; and three brothers, Mike Harman of Topeka, Jeff Harman of Watseka, Ill., and Rick Harman of Henderson, Iowa.
Grace Unrau

 

Grace A. Unrau, 53, educator, died June 20 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

The service was June 25 at Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church with Richard Wieneke officiating.

She was born June 27, 1953, to Arnold and Arene (Kaufman) Entz in Newton. On Dec. 27, 1983, she was married to Paul L. Unrau, who survives in Moundridge.

She is also survived by her mother; three brothers, Rodney Entz and Dennis Entz, both of Peabody, and Scott Entz of Whitewater; and a sister, Karen Stuber of Abilene.

A memorial has been established with Victory in the Valley in care of Miller Funeral Home in Moundridge.

 

James Upton

 

James E. Upton, 57, archdeacon of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, died June 17 in Newton.

A vigil service was held June 21 at St. Matthew?s Eipscopal Church in Newton. A Requiem Eucharist was held June 22 at St. Matthew?s with Dean E. Wolfe, ninth bishop of the Diocese of Kansas, officiating.

He was born June 9, 1950, to James B. Upton and Mary E. (McCarty) Weyand in Kansas City, Mo. On June 16, 1979, he was married to Mary Drescher, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Megan Tyner of Newton; two sons, James of Wichita and Jeff of Newton; a brother, Bill of Wellington; five sisters, Elizabeth Hill of Lehigh, Judy Sheahan of Longwood, Fla., Robyn Weyand of Pikeville, Ky., and ViAnn Neal and Edna Mehlhorn, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the Kansas School of Ministry, Camp Wood YMCA and Quivera Scout Ranch in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
