Martha Duerksen

 

Martha Lovisa Duerksen, 84, a homemaker, died Thursday, Jan. 15, at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 S. Prairie Pt., Hillsboro, with pastor Dave Platt officiating.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 16, at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro. Burial was at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 7, 1924, to Peter and Mary (Eitzen) Wiens in Ingalls. On Oct. 15, 1943 she was married to Wesley Duerksen, who predeceased her.

Survivors are sons Ron and Fran Duerksen of Lehigh, Pete and Carol Duerksen of Lindsborg and Rodean and Michelle Duerksen of Newton; daughters Jan and Herman Franz of Wichita; brother-in-law Paul Heier of California; sister Edna Kroeker of California; sister-in-law Ethel Bartel of Hillsboro; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds for Parkside Homes or Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church have been established.

Ryder Owen Reece

 

Ryder Owen Reece, infant son of Casey and Hollie Reece, died Wednesday, Dec. 31.

A private service was at Wesley Memorial Chapel at Wesley Medical Center.

He is survived by his parents; grandparents Charlie and Cindy Reece and Steve and Shelli Dechant; aunts, Hilarey and Travis Friesen and Hope Dechant; uncles Chip and Amy Reece, and Chance Reese; great-grandparents Frances Norris, Marvin and Clara Dechant, Gary and Shirley Carlson, Ed and LaQuetta Siebert.

 

Helen Schierling

 

Helen L. Classen Isaac Schierling, 95, died Jan. 13 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Services were Saturday, Jan. 17, at Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston pastor Beverly Baumgartner officiating. Burial was at Buhler City Cemetery in Buhler. Visitation was Friday at the Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton.

She was born May 29, 1913 in Meade County. On April 8, 1960, she was married to George T. Schierling in Newton, who predeceased her.

Survivors are her step-children Harry Schierling, George and Dorothy Ensz, George and LaVerna Schierling; step-daughters-in-law Lula Schierling and Virginia Schierling; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left with the Schowalter Villa in care of Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton, KS 67114.
