Deaths (Week of February 15, 2017)

• Daryl E Bartel, 64, of Hillsboro, died Feb. 11 in the emergency room at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

The service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Hills­boro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe, Hillsboro, with pastor Brian Allen officiating.

Burial is at 1 p.m. Thurs­day at the HMBC cemetery.

Visitation with the family is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro.

He was born July 5, 1952, to Eldon A. and Ethel Marie (Duerksen) Bartel at Hillsboro. On Aug. 23, 1981, he was married to Darlene Schmidt, who survives.

Other survivors include son Lance (Kim) Bartel of Bel Aire; daughter Corissa (Collin) Mangus of Bellevue, Neb.; brothers Lynn (Fran) Bartel of Enid, Okla., and Lonnie (Julie) Bartel of Iowa City, Iowa; sister Ellen (Don) Patry of Whitewater and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Tabor College or Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church and sent in care of Jost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 266, Hillsboro, KS 67063.

• larry joseph bina, 75, died Jan. 30 in Perry, Ill.

Rosary is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. John Nepomucene Church, Pil­sen, followed by a memorial service and lunch in the church basement.

• Kenneth Lee Eitzen, 93, former bank teller and co-op manager of Fairview, Okla., died Feb. 7.

The funeral was Monday, Feb. 13, at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Fairview. Burial followed in South M.B. Cemetery, near Fairview.

He was born Nov. 22, 1923, to Abraham and Rubena (Hein) Eitzen near Peabody.

On March 3, 1946, he was married to Norma Jean Epp, who was deceased in March 2009.

Survivors include daughters Marilyn and husband Don Ratzlaff of Hillsboro, and Jeanette and husband John Glasgow of Altus, Okla.; brothers Gene (Stella) and Bob (Jane), all of Fairview; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Gideons International and Fairview Fellowship Home with Fairview Funeral Home Inc, acting as custodian of the funds.

• Gloria Verna Hanschu, 90, of Ramona, died Feb. 5 at Herington Municipal Hospital.

The funeral was Feb. 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona with pastor Clark Davis officiating. Burial followed at the Lewis Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 12, 1926, to Henry E. and Mary (Berg) Snyder at Herington. On March 25, 1951, she was married to Paul Dale Hanschu, who predeceased her on June 2, 1993.

She is survived by daughter Paula Morgan and husband Max of Ramona, brother Norman Snyder and wife Naomi of Herington, two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial has been established with Trinity Lutheran Church of Ramona, sent to Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 4040 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.

• Kenneth L. “Ken” Throop, 80, auto mechanic technician and U.S. Army veteran of Hillsboro, died Feb. 7 at Salem Home of Hillsboro.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service is planned.

He was born Sept. 16, 1936, at Watford City, N.D. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Throop of Hillsboro.

Other survivors include daughter Victoria Galvin and husband Thomas of St. Charles, Mo., and son Jeffrey Throop of Hillsboro; sister Pearl Birth and husband Gean of Enterprise; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
