Deaths (Sept. 5, 2012)


a housekeeper of Peabody, died Aug. 29 at Parkside Home in Hillsboro.

Services were Sept. 1 at Peabody United Methodist Church with pastor David Ragland officiating. Burial was at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

Memorials may be made to Peabody United Methodist Church and sent in care of Baker Funeral Home, 114 Sycamore, Peabody, KS 66866.


longtime coach and teacher, who was a football coach at Herington High School from 1975 to 1981, died Aug. 30 at Life Care Center of Burlington.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at First Christian Church, 202 E. 12th Ave., Emporia. Visitation is also at the church from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.

He was born May 18, 1937, to Verle and Agnes Delphon Pruitt Goodwin in Moundridge. On June 3, 1956, he was married to Karen Slater, who predeceased him.

Survivors include sons Steve and Kim of Wichita and Craig and Ann of Round Rock, Texas; daughter Penny and Jody Fleming of Waverly and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Northern Heights High School football program and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS 66861, in charge of arrangements.
