Deaths (Sept. 12, 2012)


• GARY A. BARTLETT, 71,

formerly of Florence, was employed at Hawker Beechcraft until his retirement in 2011, died Aug. 27 at his Wichita home.

Services were Aug. 31 at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East Chapel in Wichita.

A graveside services was Sept. 1 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence.

He was born June 18, 1941, to Earl and Alberta Bartlett in Wichita.

Survivors include wife Sheryl; daughter Kelly and Danny Greene of Topeka; son Bob and Kim Bartlett of Whitewater and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Harvey House Museum of Florence or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Wichita and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, KS 66861, in charge of arrangements.

• VONCILLE JEAN DIRKS, 57,

of Hillsboro, employed in medical records/health information at Hillsboro Community Hospital, died Sept. 3 at HCH.

Services were Sept. 7 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church, 610 S. Main St., Hillsboro, with pastor Steve Schroeder officiating.

Burial was at Gnadenau Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

She was born Jan. 25, 1955, to Leonard and Voncille (Johnson) Goering at Hutchinson. On April 12, 1986, she was married to Norman Dirks, who survives.

Other survivors include brothers Thomas and Terrie Goering of Pretty Prairie and Russell and Kim Goering of Mustang, Okla.

Memorials may be made to Parkview MB Church or Union Rescue Mission and sent in care of Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro, KS 67063, in charge of arrangements.

• DELANO “SCOTT” O’DELL, 55,

of Marion, employed with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, died Aug. 29 at his home.

A graveside service was Sept. 4 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence with pastor Alan Stahlecker officiating.

He was born July 4, 1957, to Delano and Barbara (Harbison) O’Dell in Florence.

Other survivors include brother Michael and sister Dianne and Don Burnett, all of Marion; two nieces and their families and many other family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Quail Forever—Youth Program and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS 66861.
