Deaths (November 22, 2017)

• JOHN EDWARD KNAAK SR., 79, former owner and manager of the Ben Franklin store in Hillsboro, died Saturday, Nov. 11.

Cremation is planned. The family will have a celebration of life with a time and place to be announced at a later date.

He was born to Anton N. and Irma Shahan Knaak on Oct. 13, 1938, in Winchester, Ill. On July 17, 1960, he was married to Windell (Wendy) Acree, who survives.

Other survivors included a son, John (LeaAnn) Knaak Jr. of Hillsboro, Kansas; a daughter, Cheryl (Brian) Smith of Independence, Mo.; a brother Richard (Marilyn) Knaak of Enid, Okla.; a sister-in-law DeeAnn Knaak of Emporia; and two grandchildren.

• MITCHELL RAY “MIKE” LIKINS SR., 66, a machin­ist/grinder of Canton, died Nov. 16 at Hospice of Reno County, Hutchinson.

The memorial service was Nov. 20 at Olson’s Mor­tuary, Canton, with pastor Bill McCary presiding.

He was born Dec. 2, 1950, in McPherson to Glenn and Dorothy (Burch) Likins. On Aug. 2, 1968, was married to Patricia Ann Cravens, who predeceased him in 1991. On Jan. 2, 1993, he was married to Patti Harp, who survives.

He also is survived by a daughter, Adrianna (Justin) White of Canton; a son, Justin (Jana) Likins, McPher­son; brothers Glen­non Eugene of the Philli­pines, James of Hutchinson, Bob (Molly) of Hutchinson, and Tom of the Dominican Republic; a sister, Connie (Jim Newberry) of Arkan­sas and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Mitchell Ray Likins Memorial Fund, in care of Olson Mortuary, 149 N. Main St., Canton, KS 67428.
