• Jay d. bowman, 69,

a retired telephone technician, died March 7 at his home in rural Smith Center.

Services were March 12, at the Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary with pastor Dennis Lambert officiating. Burial was at Cora Cedar Hill Cemetery.

He was born June 20, 1941, to Vernon and Eldora (Freburg) Bowman in Smith Center.

Survivors include wife Connie (McGuire) Bowman of Smith Center; sons Steven T. and Connie of Whitewater and Kurtis T. and Jessica of Hillsboro; sister Vae Jene and Don Herron of Lawrence; sister-in-law Robyn Bowman of Windom and one granddaughter.

• Irene V. Crabtree, 83,

a homemaker of Marion, died March 11 at Via Christi – St. Francis in Wichita.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Burial will be at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 4, 1928, to Leslie O. and Ada F. (Duncan) Gillespie, in South Haven. On June 15, 1946, she was married to Robert Crabtree, who predeceased her.

Survivors include sons David and Sue of Yelm, Wash., and Michael and Jody of Wichita; daughters Carol and Larry Winegarner of Wichita and Wanda Crabtree of Marion; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

• rosella ann (frey) fleming, 89,

a retired housekeeping supervisor and pharmacy lab technician of Hesston, died March 9.

Services were March 12, at First Mennonite Church, 429 E. First St., Newton. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, Hesston, KS 67062, is in charge of arrangements.

 

• Elizabeth helmer, 99,

a homemaker, died March 10 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

No public service is planned. Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro, was in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 20, 1911, to George and Mary (Lornz) Meier in Moscow, Russia. On Oct. 19, 1930, she was married to Harry Helmer, who predeceased her.

• frank a. maloun, 58,

a truck driver, died March 7 at his home in Walton.

Services were March 10 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Pilsen Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 10, 1952, to Frank J. and Kathryn (Dowell) Maloun in Marion. On April 18, 1981, he was married to Raylene Jean Smith, who survives.

Other survivors include daughters Iris Maloun of Newton, Brenda and Scott Bartel of Hillsboro, Susan and Paul Webb of Peabody, Janelle and Jeremiah Coats of Walton and Sherri and Bob Landis of Lehigh; son Scott and Paula Harris of Peabody; 20 grandchildren, and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

• LaVINA ANN (UNRUH) SALTS, 91,

of Wichita, died Tuesday, March 8.

Services were Tuesday at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar Ave.,Valley Center. Burial was at Johannestal Cemetery, Hillsboro.

She was born to Benjamin A. Unruh and Mary Minnie (Dirks) Unruh in Hillsboro. On Sept. 4, 1940, she was married to Lee Howard Salts, who predeceased her.

She is survived by daughters, Candace and Richard Dineley of Madison, Ga., Sandra and Eddie Ellis of Birmingham, Iowa; three grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

• theodore “TED” schwabauer, 92,

of Canton, a retired sheet metal worker, died March 10, at Westview Manor in Derby.

A graveside service was March 15 at Canton Township Cemetery, Canton.

He was born May 27, 1918, to Conrad and Mollie (Lipps) Schwabauer at Durham. On Oct. 16, 1970, he was married to Corrine (Holder) Trammell, who predeceased him.

Survivors include sons Conrad Schwabauer, Tony Schwabauer, George Trammell and John Trammel; daughters Jo Robinson, Terri Burkhart, Mary Herridge and Lauretta Lewis; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
