◼ PAULINE BALZER, 95, died May 22 at Asbury Park in Newton.

The memorial service was Saturday, June 2, at Grace Hill Menno­nite Church with pastor Weldon Martens presiding. Private family interment was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Mountain Lake, Minn., to David H. and Helena (Peters) Schroeder.

On Aug. 19, 1943, she was married at Mountain Lake to Raymond Balzer, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a son, David J. (Donna) Balzer of Whitewater; a daughter, Kay (Arlie) Schroeder of New­ton; a sister, Edna Nickel of Moun­tain Lake, and two sisters-in-law, Glendeen Schroeder of Mountain Lake and Wilma Harms of Newton. She also is survived by four grandchildren and two great-grand­children.

◼ DONALD L. BEISEL, 76, a career plumber from Tampa, died May 30 after a short illness. Services were conducted Tuesday, June 5, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hering­ton.

He was born July 5, 1941, in Tampa to Fred and Anna Beisel. On Jan. 2, 1960 he was married to Ramona E. Stuchlik, who survives.

He also is survived by three children, Connie (Jim) Janzen, Alan (Christine) Beisel, Tim (Angie) Beisel; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven siblings.

◼ ROY H. OTTENSMEIER, 93, a worker for the Kansas Highway Maintenance Department for 30 years, died June 2 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service was at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Visitation was 5-6 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Fowler Cemetery, northeast of McLouth.

He was born March 5, 1926, at Tampa to Henry and Louise Lenhart Ottensmeier. On May 16, 1953, he was married to Betty J. Losey, who survives.

He also is survived by two sons, Randy (Darla) Ottensmeier of Oskaloosa; and Ken (Jackie) Ottens­meier of McLouth; one daughter, Janet (Troy) Smith of Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

◼ VALERIE L. (HIEBERT) STEVENSON, 59, , a cosmetologist for more than 40 years, died May 19 at her home in rural Reading surrounded by family.

A celebration of life is planned for noon Sunday, June 24, at Hammond Park, 1636 State St., at the Kiwanis shelter in Emporia. The celebration will include a potluck lunch, balloon release and shared stories.

She was born Sept. 29, 1958, at Hillsboro to H. Russell and Lola (Jost) Hiebert. She is survived by husband Jon Steavenson of the home.

She also is survived by daughter Crystal Marlar and grandkids MaKayla and Mikkel McCray, and great-grandchildren Ella and Ivory Marlar, all of Texas; a son, Shane Marlar of Dur­ham, granddaughter Skylar and Paisley Marlar of Can­ton, and grandson Teagen Marlar of Durham; sibling Matthew Hiebert, wife Francine and son Jaden.
