• amanda ewert, 96, a retired secretary from Hills­boro Mennonite Brethren Church, died May 17 at Park­side Homes in Hillsboro.

The service is at 3 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Hills­boro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe, Hillsboro.

She was born April 20, 1920, to Tobias and Mary (Thomas) Deckert at Marion, S.D. On Oct. 22, 1943, she was married to John Ewert, who predeceased her in 2004.

Survivors include son Al and wife Ruth Ewert of Wichita; daughters Eldora and husband Richard Pen­n­er of McPherson, Rachel and husband Steven Behrends of Overland Park; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

• randolf b. friesen, 87, a farmer of Goessel, died June 12 at Newton Medical Center.

A graveside service was June 18 at Alexanderwohl Cemetery, Goessel. A memorial service followed at Alex­anderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel.

He was born Dec. 30, 1928, to Daniel B. and Suzie Goertzen Friesen at Goessel.

Survivors include sisters Linda Deasy of Goessel and Wilma Martens of Inman and nieces and nephews.

• alma rempel, 93, a homemaker, died June 14 at Salem Home in Hills­boro.

A burial service was June 17 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery with pastor Brian Allen officiating.

A memorial gathering followed at Salem Home Cha­p­el, 704 S. Ash, Hillsboro.

She was born March 29, 1923, to Andrew and Bena (Balzer) Schmidt at Hills­boro. On Aug. 5, 1972, she was married to John Rempel, who survives.

Her other survivor was brother Malvin Schmidt of Hillsboro.

• jerrod paul rogers, 25, died June 16 in rural Hillsboro.

The service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednes­day, June 22, at Ebenfeld Mennonite Breth­ren Church officiated by Pastor Jerred Unruh.

He was born May 21, 1991, in Hutchinson. He was married to Jen Miller on May 28, 2015, who survives.

Other survivors include parents Mark and Nancy (Jost) Rogers of rural Hills­boro; brother Victor Rogers of Sublette; sisters Margaret Sweany of Senegal, West Africa, and Rhonda Rogers and Erica Eakers, all of Hills­boro.

• mildred l. unruh, employed at Southwestern Bell Telephone for 32 years, retiring in May 1980, died at Asbury Park in Newton.

The service is at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Thursday with the family from 6-8 p.m. greeting friends.

She was born to Cor­ne­lius and Sara (Schroeder) Unruh at Goessel.

Survivors include friends and neighbors in the Goessel and Newton area.

• carolyn j. wedel, 74, a farmer, jeweler and homemaker, died June 10 at her home in Goessel.

A graveside service was June 18 at Blumen­feld Cemetery in rural Mar­ion County. The cemetery is one mile west of Goessel on 120th and 13⁄4 miles north on 30th Avenue.

She was born Jan. 4, 1942, to John A. and Bertha (Frey) Schroeder at Goessel.

Survivors include son Chanin and wife Corina We­del of Newton; daughter Tammy Wedel of Minnesota; brothers Robert Schroeder of Manhattan and Donald Schroeder of Hesston, and four grandchildren.
