Deaths (July 6, 2016)

• dennis e. carey, 63, of Hutchinson, retired from Southwestern Bell and AT & T after 30 years, died June 28 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The service was July 1 at Elliott Chapel with Jimie-Wray Mead officiating.

Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

He was born Feb. 25, 1953, to Clarence E. and Delores J. (Lovett) Carey at Hutch­in­son. On Sept. 9, 1977, he was married to Deatra Chattam.

Survivors include his mother of Hutchinson; daughter Denaye and Ron Dies of Lehigh; sons Dustin and April Carey and Dylan Carey, all of Hutchin­son; five grandchildren; sister Shelley and Larry Scott of Nicker­son and Cynthia Foulk of Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

• craig d. matz, 64, of Marion, retired from Bur­ling­ton Northern Santa Fe Railroad, died June 30 at Newton Medical Center.

The service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Mar­ion Christian Church, 140 Elm St., Marion. Burial will be at Marion Cemetery.

He was born May 21, 1952, to Allen “Bud” and Margaret “Sally” (Clark) Matz at Wichita. On July 27, 1974, he was married to De­nise Crawford, who survives.

Other survivors include his mother of Peabody; children Heather and Mike Calhoun of Marion, Alisha and Cole Freeman of Man­hattan, and Jason and Shel­by Matz of Sapulpa, Okla.; five grandchildren; brother Kirk and Debbie Matz of Hesston; sisters-in-law Deb­bie and Joe Bow­man of Mar­­ion, Joan “Cookie” Thrash of Hutch­in­son and Dorothy and Richard Odle of Wichita and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

• Martha Mae Potter, 96, of Marion, a homemaker who also worked on a farm south of McPherson, died July 1 at Salem Home in Hillsboro.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Mc­Pherson Church of Christ, 700 East A Ave. with pastor Gary Witcher officiating. Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Stock­ham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut St., McPherson, KS 67460.

She was born May 30, 1920, to David A. and Helena L. (Klassen) Hiebert at Hillsboro. On Nov. 28, 1942, she was married to Billy V. Potter, who died Sept. 21, 1992.

Survivors include sons Kenneth L. and wife Mona Potter of Clarksdale, Mo., Gene E. and wife Roxanne Pot­­ter of Paradise, Texas, and Steven L. and wife Jennifer Potter of Mc­Pher­son; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

• alice schmidt, 85, died June 23 at Bethesda Home, Goessel.

A memorial service will follow the burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at Tabor Mennonite Church, Goessel. Burial will precede the service at 10 a.m. at Tabor Mennonite Church Ceme­tery, Goessel.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. July 22 at Bethesda Home, Goessel.

She was born Feb. 20, 1931, to Reinhard and Anna Hiebert Funk at Hillsboro. On May 24, 1957, she was married to Dannie Schmidt, who predeceased her June 26, 2011.

Survivors include son Dwayne and wife Fawn Schmidt of Danbury, Conn.; daughters Cheryl and husband L.H. Brunner of Elbing and Lynette and husband Richard Johnston of New­ton; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Rosalie Suderman• rosalie suderman, 89, of Bartlesville, Okla., and formerly of Hillsboro, died June 28 at Dewey.

The service was July 1 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Breth­ren Church with pastor Dan Denison officiating.

Burial was at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Ceme­tery.

She was born Jan. 15, 1927, to Alex and “Ruby” Rebecca (Schneider) Dout at Okeene, Okla. On Aug. 8, 1948, she was married to Joseph Suderman, who predeceased her.

Survivors include children Philip and Deborah Suderman of Dallas, Rachel and Charles Stella of Magnolia, Texas, Laura and Jim Hughes of Charles City, Iowa, Evelyn and Dennis Hightower of Bartlesville, Teresa and Keith Marple of San Antonio, Texas, and Nancy and Jack Kyle of Independence; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Davis Family Funeral Home, 113 S. Osage, Dewey, OK 74029-2738, was in charge of service arrangements.
