Thomas Fleming

 

Thomas W. Fleming, 90, a farmer, died Tuesday, July 14, in Hesston.

A graveside service was held July 17, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. A memorial service was also held Friday at the First Mennonite Church, 429 E. First St., Newton with pastors Joan Boyer and Dennie Janzi officiating.

He was born Nov. 3, 1918, to Thomas M. and Grace Parker Fleming at Paola. On Oct. 8, 1946, he was married to Rosella Frey, who survives.

Other survivors include sons Gary and Judy Fleming of Springdale, Ark., and Roger and Cynthia Fleming of Wichita; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Schowalter Villa or First Mennonite Church in Newton and sent in care of Miller Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, Hesston, KS 67062.

 

Alfred Hawkinson

 

Alfred S. Hawkinson, 88, owner/operator of McPherson County Abstract Co., proprietor of Hawk?s Haven at Kanopolis Lake and U.S. Army veteran, died July 18 at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., July 22, at Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson, with pastor H. Dick Reynolds officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.

He was born Jan. 23, 1921, to Paul Milton and Ruth (Simpson) Hawkinson in McPherson. On Dec. 30, 1946, he was married to Virginia Griffee. On Sept. 8, 1979, he was married to Marjorie Kenyon Coffin, who predeceased him in 2005.

Survivors include son Griff and Kathryn Hawkinson of McPherson; daughter Ann and Gabe Gabrick of Overland Park; step-son William ?Bill? Coffin of San Juan Capistroano, Calif.; daughters Sharon Carbonneau of 29 Palms, Calif., and Carol Ann Clifton of Perris, Calif.; two grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

 

Larry Lucas

 

Larry Dean Lucas, 60, died Thursday, July 16, at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

A graveside service was held July 21, at the Marion Cemetery in Marion. He was born Oct. 14, 1948, to Clifford ?Bud? and Mildred (Bezdek) Lucas in Marion.

Survivors include his parents Bud and Mildred of Marion; children Bobby Lucas and Dina Becraft, both of California; four grandchildren and brother Clifford Lucas of Peabody.

Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, was in charge of arrangements.

 

Vernon Plenert

 

Vernon A. Plenert, 82, business owner, died July 14, at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson.

Services was held at 3 p.m. July 18, at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church with pastor Bruce Porter officiating. Burial was in Buhler East Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 11, 1926, to Arnold A. and Marie Bartel Plenert of Hillsboro. On Aug. 21, 1953, he was married to Sue Ann Schroeder, who survives.

Other survivors include daughters Beverly and Richard Heim of Hesston, Sharon and Randy Janzen and Laurie and Mark Isaac, all of Visalia, Calif.; brother Lloyd and Vera Plenert of Stillwell; sisters Arnette and Delmar Duerksen and Sarita and John Duerksen, all of McPherson; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church or Buhler Sunshine Home and sent in care of Buhler Mortuary, 120 N. Main, Buhler KS 67522.
