Deaths (July 10, 2013)

? ROBERT BURL BEVAN, 87, a lifelong resident of Lost Springs and retired postmaster, died July 3 at Herington Municipal Hospital.

The service was July 8 at Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick, with pastor Bill Peterson officiating.

Burial was at Lost Springs Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 24, 1926, to Burl Franklin and Inez Myrtle (McMillen) Bevan at Lost Springs. On July 28, 1963, he was married to Betty Anne Wheat, who survives.

Other survivors include daughter Pamela Sue Bevan of Hutchinson; son Todd Allen and Jessica Rose Bevan of Bend, Ore.; one granddaughter and sisters Ardis Belle and Darrel Sutton of Salina, Mary Ann Walter and Alma Elaine Wyatt, both of Hillsboro.

Memorials may be made to Hebron Lutheran Church and sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.

 

? TREVA MAE KERBS, 81, of Marion, died July 5 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita.

The service will be at 10 a.m. July 10 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 320 S. Cedar St., Marion, with pastor Davis officiating.

Burial will be at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 22, 1932, to Earl and Blanche (Roberts) Kelsey at Marion. On July 12, 1950, she was married to Jack R. Kerbs, who survives.

Other survivors include daughters Jacque and Kelly Rector of Lawrence, Gwen Seidel of Marion and Crystal and Dave Nahirny of Houston, Texas; brothers Keith of Newton and Forrest of Marion; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, KS 66861, also in charge of arrangements.

 

? GEORGE SCHIERLING JR., 76, died July 8 at Asbury Park in Newton.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the First Mennonite Church of Newton, 429 E. First St.

He was born July 2, 1937, to George and Marie (Kroeker) Scierling Sr. at Halstead. In 1959, he was married to Laverna Funk of Hillsboro, who survives.

Other survivors include daughters Debbie and Scott Koehn and Diane and Gary Hite; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; sister-in-law Virginia Schierling and brother-in-law George Ensz.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation and sent to Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114.

? GILBERT L. ?GIB? WEDEL, 78, a retired principal and music teacher, of Canton, died July 1 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

The funeral was July 6 at Canton United Methodist Church. Burial was at Canton Township Cemetery.

He was born June 14, 1935, to Martin and Linda (Dalke) Wedel at Goessel. On Nov. 26, 1960, he was married to Sharon E. Perryman, who survives.

Other survivors include son Skip and Lisa Wedel of Bixby, Okla.; daughter Tami and Brad Seifert of Junction City; brothers Bob and Rosie Wedel of Lyons, Don and Ava Wedel of El Dorado and Rod and Patti Wedel of Newton; sister Irene Wiebe of Spring, Texas; and five grandchildren.
