• JEAN E. BALLEW, 86, of Peabody, died Jan. 1 at her residence.

Private services were at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Pea­body.

Zeiner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Milton Goertzen• MILTON W. GOERTZEN, 90, of Goessel, died Dec. 30 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

A graveside service was Jan. 3 at Alexander­wohl Men­nonite Church Ceme­tery, followed by a memorial service at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with pastor Linda Ewert officiating.

He was born Aug. 29, 1927, to Arnold and Eva Janzen Goertzen at Goessel. On Aug. 29, 1951, he was married to Linda Bartel, who predeceased him on March 4, 2014.

Survivors include children Lynette (Stuart) Penner of rural Hillsboro, Myron (Ruth) Goertzen of rural Goessel, Steve Goertzen and Rose­mary Reimer of rural Goessel, Tim (Judy) Goert­zen of rural Goessel, Mark Goertzen and Suzanne Ehst of Constantine, Mich.; sisters Elma Goertz of Goessel and Dora Unruh of Peabody, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to either the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church or to Bethesda Home and sent in care of Miller- Ott Funeral Home, 303 E. Main St., Goes­sel, KS 67053.

• DENNIS R. SCHROEDER, 73, employed at Duf­fines Optical, Topeka, and Kansas Department of Transporta­tion survey crew, died Dec. 31 at Kansas Chris­tian Home, Newton.

The service was Jan. 6 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 4, 1944, to Elmer K. and Ruby M. Richert Schroeder at Hillsboro.

Survivors include brother Edsel of Marion and cousins.

• CHERYL KAY SILHAN, 47, of Marion, died Jan. 8 at her residence.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Pilsen Catholic Church in Pilsen with rosary at 9 a.m. before the service. Burial to follow at Pilsen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

She was born Dec. 14, 1970, to Jim and Margie Spohn at Hillsboro. On Aug. 25, 1990, she was married to David Silhan, who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Justin and Jeffery; her parents; mother-in-law Juanita Silhan; brother-in-law Mark Silhan and family; brother Terry Looney and family; brother Daniel Spohn and family; and an uncle, Jim Brewer.

• DON R. WIPF, 74, of Rogers, Ark., former editor and part-owner of the Hills­boro Star-Journal, died Dec. 30 following a long illness.

An informal memorial service with family and friends was held Jan. 6 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers.

He was born July 20, 1943, to Warren and Mary (Klein­sasser) Wipf of Doland, S.D. His wife, Phyllis Deutschen­dorf, survives.

Other survivors include son Chuck and Shannon Wipf of Rogers, Ark.; daughter Rhea Wolf of Portland, Ore.; four granddaughters; brother Terry and Marilynn of Sterling Heights, Mich.; mother-in-law Vera Flam­ing; nieces, nephews and other family members.
