◼ CHARLOTTE DAWSON, 90, of Clements, died Feb. 20 at St. Luke Living Center at Marion.
Private graveside services were Feb. 26 at Clements Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 15, 1927, to Edward Breese Thurston and Osha (Jack) Thurston at Elmdale. On July 31, 1944, she was married to Carl Junior Dawson, who predeceased her.
Survivors include sons Kenneth Carl and Vicky Dawson of Cottonwood Falls, Dennis Edward and Sharon Dawson of Cedar Point, and Steven Bruce and Susan Dawson of Emporia; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

◼ MELVIN THOMAS LANNING, 83, of Howard, retired Navy veteran and former owner of Lanning’s Furniture Refinishing and Repair, died Feb. 13 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.
Cremation has taken place with no services.
He was born Nov. 23, 1934, to Eugene and Hazel (VanBuskirk) Lanning in Howard. He was married to JoAnn Heusner.
Survivors include daughter Cynthia Deutscher and Mike of Topeka, son Lawrence ”Gene” Lanning and Traci of Marion, and daughter LeaAnn Knaak and John of Hillsboro; brothers Larry Lanning of Howard and Terry Lanning and wife Rita of Coffeyville; sisters Mary Wade and Roy of Eureka and Kathy Fouts and Sam of Augusta; brother-in-law Bob Clark of Howard; grandsons Dylan Frantz and Emile of Inman and Luke, Seth and Jack Lanning of Marion; granddaughters Madysen Frantz of Stillwater, Okla., Payton Deutscher of Overland Park, Tiffany Funk and Jason of Hillsboro and Brooke Knaak of Newton; and one grandson.

◼ MARILYN KAY (ZINN) MILLER, 82, died Feb. 15 at Colorado Springs, Colo.
A private family service will be held at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery at a later date.
She was born on May 4, 1935, in Lansing, Mich., to Franklin Roy and Armina Elizabeth (Thomas) Zinn.
She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Miller of Colorado Springs; daughters KayLani (Virgil) Peters of Colorado Springs, Kassandra (Dennis) Belisle, Bristol, Conn., Krassina Young, Pueblo, Colo.; son, Vincent (Priscilla) Miller, Pocatello, Idaho; three sisters, Annabelle Harner, Betty DeVivo and Myrna Boyd; one brother, Jim Zinn; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

◼ BARBARA A. MORTON, 84, a retired grocery store clerk and homemaker, died Feb. 22 at The Cedars in McPherson.
The funeral service was 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the Canton United Methodist Church; interment was in the Canton Township Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Carneiro, the daughter of Frank and Clydie (Cook) Zimmerman. On April 5, 1953, she was married at Brookville to Rex R. Morton, who predeceased her April 14, 2016.
Survivors include a son, Gregory (Jody) Morton of Canton; two daughters, Rexann (Rick) Rouse of Canton, and Gail (Dan) Unruh of Galva; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

◼ MALINDA NIKKEL, 91, died Feb. 15 at Hillsboro Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 28, 1927, to Dave and Marie (Wiens) Penner in Hillsboro.
The Celebration of Life service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, officiated by pastor Loyal Martin.
Interment was 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro MB Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Irvin Nikkel; a brother, Donald Penner; and a sister, Esther Penner.

◼ MARY JANE WILLS, 81, of Wichita, a retired housekeeping employee of area care facilities, died Feb. 23.

She was born Dec. 14, 1936 to Henry and Mary (Herbel) Klatt at Hillsboro. On Aug. 6, 1955, she was married at Canton to Harry W. Wills, who predeceased her July 19, 1995.
She is survived by a daughter, Leith M. Wills of Newton; a son, Troy H. (Theresia) Wills of McPherson; a sister-in-law, Ereline Hardee of Galva; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
