Deaths (Dec 14, 2016)

• palmer base, 88, of Roxbury, 88, farmer and dairyman, died Dec. 10 at Salina Regional Health Center.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at Temple Church Rural Gypsum with pastors Bill Rudd and Dennis Mullins officiating.

Family will receive guests from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church before Thursday’s service. Also visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Peace Valley Cemetery, rural Roxbury.

He was born Jan. 14, 1928, to John and Susanna (Bohse) Base of Tampa. He was married to Lucille Thiesen March 25, 1956, rural Goessel, who predeceased him in 2015.

Survivors include son-in- law Merle Hartman of Andover.

• eugene h. becker, 71, of Stevens, Pa., and formerly of Hillsboro, worked for Vic­tor F. Weaver Inc. and Lat­shaw Bros. Concrete Inc., Denver, Pa., died Dec. 7 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, Pa.

The service was Dec. 10, at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, Pa., with Chap­lain Nilda Roman officiating. Burial was at the Mellingers Union Cemetery.

He was born to Jacob D. and Reola Bartel Becker at Hillsboro. In 1970, he was married to Martha Agatha (Wiens) Becker, who survives.

Other survivors include daughter Crystal and husband Christopher Perry of York, Pa.; son Clinton Beck­er and wife Christine Baek of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandsons; siblings Geneva Beck­er, Lois (Clifford) Unruh and Curt Becker, all of Hillsboro, Norma (Gary) Gossen of Corn, Okla., Elaine (Ron) Saunders of Newton and Da­vid (Kathy) Becker of Bel­ton, Mo., and nieces and nephews.

• tom “perch” reid, 64, an iron and construction worker of Marion, died Dec. 10 at his home at Marion County Lake.

The service will be Dec. 14 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence, with rosary recited at 10 a.m., and funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial is at 1:30 p.m. at the Tampa Lutheran Ceme­tery, Tampa.

He was born July 6, 1952, to Leo and Neva Reid in Newton. On October 22, 1983, he was married to Bev Backus, who survives.

Survivors also include siblings Reilly Reid and wife Susan of Florence, Kristin Reid Parrino and husband Steve of Dallas, Texas, Kevin Reid and wife Tracy of Maize, and nieces and nephews.

• elsie e. reiswig, 80, of Marion, a volunteer at the Marion Senior Center, died Dec. 6 at St. Luke Living Center in Marion. No services are scheduled at this time.

She was born Oct. 23, 1936, to Elmer and Emma (Martz) Abell at Kansas City, Kan. She was married to Virgil Reiswig, who predeceased her in 1998.

Survivors include sons Lloyd Campbell of Tampa, Fla., and Charles Campbell of Midlowthian, Va.; brothers Edward of Odessa, Mo., and Earl of Kansas City, Kan.; sister Elma Newton of Oak Hill; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
