• Elsie groening, 91, of Hillsboro, died Aug. 24 at Hillsboro Community Hospital.
A celebration of life service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe, with pastor Brian Allen officiating.
Burial is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro.
She was born July 5, 1925, to Jacob H. and Anna Wiebe Ewert at Mountain Lake, Minn. On Aug. 8, 1946, she was married to Marvin Groening, who predeceased her in 2007.
Survivors include sons Loren of Hays, Joel and wife Cindy of Davao, Philippines; daughters Marilyn and husband Ron Hiebert of rural Hillsboro, Karleen and husband Jerry Warkentin of McAllen, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

• Eugene wilford hicks, 87, a pastor of Herington, died Aug. 25, at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita.
A memorial service is planned for 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Herington, with pastors Walter Gilkey and Clark Davis officiating.
Family will receive guests following the church service. Burial will be at a later date at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born April 13, 1929, to Wilford and Marie (Brunner) Hicks at Ramona. On May 31, 1959, he was married to Mardell Taylor, who predeceased him.
Survivors include daughters Laura and Eddy Hall of Wichita and Marian “Mary” and Vernon Weber of rural Herington; sons Ross and Brenda of Winfield and Matt Hicks of Abilene; sister-in-law Deaun Huff of Santa Fe, N.M; five grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
Memorials may be given to the LCMS Joint Seminary Fund and sent to Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
• jane pauline mccormick, 89, of Salina, died Aug. 23 at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.
The service was Aug. 26 at Zeiner Funeral Home, with pastor Jeff Lee officiating.
Burial was at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
She was born Sept. 5, 1926, to William and Edith (Settergran) Sells at Herington. On Oct. 26, 1946, she was married to James E. Gillett. On Oct. 8, 1977, she married Vic McCormick, who predeceased her.
Survivors include sons James and wife Amy Gillett of Lost Springs and Robert and wife Debbie Gillett; stepchildren Connie, James, and Larry McCormick; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
