? VELMA VERNICE FLAMING, 88, a homemaker, died July 28 at the Sunshine Home in Buhler.

A graveside service was Aug. 1 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson, followed by a memorial service at Medora Community Bible Church, Hutchinson, with pastor Wayne Johnson presiding.

She was born Sept. 20, 1922, to Edmond S. and Agatha Schmidt Hiebert at Goessel. On March 18, 1943, she was married to Abraham S. Flaming, who predeceased her June 3, 2010.

Survivors include son Wade of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughters, Sally Flaming of Hutchinson and Jane Marriner of Washington, N.C.; one grandchild; brothers, Ervin of Halstead and John of Beatrice, Neb.; sisters Anna Mae Janzen of Hesston and Lela Goertz of St. James, Mo.; stepbrother Henry Dyck of Arizona and stepsisters Mary Richert and Susan Voth, both of Goessel.

Memorials may be made to either Medora Community Bible Church or the Buhler Sunshine Home and sent in care of Buhler Mortuary, 120 N. Main, Buhler, KS 67522.

? OTTO R. QUIRING, 89, a farmer of Goessel, died July 27 .

A graveside service was July 30 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church Cemetery.

He was born June 18, 1922, to Peter P. and Anna Reimer Quiring in Goessel. He was married to Sarah Flaming Quiring, who predeceased him in September 2001.

Survivors include children Karen Quiring of Bailey, Colo., Bob and Sherry Quiring of Edmond, Okla., and Jerry and Patsy Quiring of Wellston, Okla.; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters Ruth Boese and Bertha Freisen and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Bethesda Home or to the Alexanderwohl Church and sent in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 303 E. Main St., Goessel, KS 67053.

? ETTA D. RADER, 86, a homemaker, died July 27 at Salem Home in Hillsboro.

Services were Aug. 1 at the First Baptist Church, Durham, with pastor Curtis Wiens officiating. Burial was at Durham Park Cemetery in rural Durham.

She was born March 29, 1925, to Harry Ray and Florence (Feik) Rees in Abilene. On June 5, 1948, she was married to Alvie Rader, who predeceased her in 1985.

Survivors include son Jerry and Eileen Rader of Durham; daughters Doneta and Lawrence Kirschenmann of Ree Heights, S.D., and Diane and Tom Hawthorne of Coffeyville; brothers Marvin Rees, Loyal Rees and Harry (Milton) Rees; sisters Alma Sexton, Lila Zimmerman, Edith Sanders and Avis Berg?man; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Etta Rader Memorial Fund and sent in care of Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Hillsboro, KS 67063-1727.

? MARY L. ROOT, 64, a safety coordinator at large chain store, died July 29 at her home in Florence.

Services will be Aug. 8 at Zeiner Funeral Home, Florence.

She was born Jan. 16, 1947 to Lonnie and Betty Jordan Edwards in Chattanooga, Tenn. On Nov. 17, 1967, she was married to Edwin Root, who survives.

Other survivors include sons Edwin, Jr. of Andover and Phillip of Wichita; three grandchildren and a brother Phillip Davis of Atlanta, Ga.

Memorials may be made to Children?s Miracle Network through Wal-Mart and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, KS 66861-1523.

? DONALD J. STIKA, 59, a laborer, died July 28 St. Louis, Mo.

Services were Aug. 2 at St. John Nepomucene Church at Pilsen. Rosary preceded the service. Burial was at Pilsen Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 19, 1952 to Charles and Mary (Klenda) Stika in Marion.

Survivors include daughter Stefanie Reckerd of St. James, Mo.; brother Richard of Lake?wood, Colo.; sisters Marlys Kretchmar of Wichita and Phyllis Hein of Marion and three grandchildren.
